Purpose:Â The part-time and seasonal Security Officer conducts all security operations for the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, preserving a safe environment for employees, visitors and property.

Essential Job Functions:
- Follows all security policies, protocols and procedures.
- Will serve as the security officer operating the Evolv Weapon Detection system at the front gate entry.
- Makes regular rounds of the property to monitor grounds and facilities.
- Locks and unlocks gates and buildings as needed. Â Starts/stops escalators per schedule and as needed.
- Provides escort for monetary transfers and for any staff requesting assistance.
- Is familiar with emergency management and contingency planning. Â Participate in regular drills.
- Conducts security operations for specific events.
- Responds to all emergencies and alarms.
- Cooperates with public law enforcement, fire and other safety agencies.
- Creates reports on incidents and breaches.
- Investigates and resolves issues.
- Creates reports for management on security status.
- Coordinates parking operations as needed.
- Works collaboratively with Visitor Services to assist guests.
- Responds to first aid calls.

The employee handles customer concerns effectively and calms tense situations to improve visitor satisfaction. They also keep the park clean by picking up litter and waste, helping to create an enjoyable environment for everyone.Â

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; experience in security and/or emergency management preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- First aid and CPR trained
- Ability to operate two-way radios, surveillance systems and other security systems.
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse populations.
- Flexible availability for weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Physical Requirements:
Â
- This position involves fast-paced work, requiring quick thinking and effective communication with supervisor, staff, and visitors.Â
- Park is large and has challenging terrain that will be primarily navigated on foot and sometimes on carts.
- It may require prolonged periods of sitting while monitoring equipment and responding to calls.Â
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions; snow, heat, rain, etc.
