We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support our Product Design & Development team. This position offers hands-on experience working on new product development and improvements to existing products, with a strong focus on injection-molded plastic components. Interns will learn industry-standard tools and processes under the guidance of experienced engineers.
This role is ideal for students interested in plastic part design, assembly methods, and product development.
What You’ll Do
- Support the work of the Mechanical Engineering project teams while being provided mentorship to perform engineering related tasksÂ
- Assist with mechanical design activities for new and existing products
- Create and update 3D CAD models and engineering drawings, primarily for injection-molded plastic parts and some machined components
- Support design for manufacturability efforts, with emphasis on plastic injection molding
- Assist with engineering calculations, structural analysis (including FEA), and interpretation of results
- Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting activities
- Create and maintain technical documentation
- Learn and use engineering tools such as Creo, Windchill, ANSYS, and Jira
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Microsoft Teams and Outlook
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or Engineering Technology
- Junior or Senior standing (expected graduation 2027 or later)
- Interest in product design and development
- Experience with 3D CAD / solid modeling through coursework or projects
- Basic understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing processes
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing in Creo
- Experience with ANSYS or other FEA tools through coursework or projects
- Familiarity with part design for plastic injection molding
- Familiarity with machining processes
- Prior internship, co-op, or hands-on project experience
