Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, The Safety Advocate functions in an observational/assisting capacity for patients who are at risk to cause injury to themselves or others.  Provides services to meet the personal care, assistive, psychosocial and safety needs of assigned patients.  Engages fully with each patient, providing a significant level of care, compassion and interaction, continually observing and maintaining patient safety.  This position provides superior customer service through effective communication between patients, family members and clinical staff to improve and enhance customer relations.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Knowledge:

  • Suicide Precautions training completed within the orientation period.

  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques.

Skills:

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and effectively greet and relate to patients, physicians and staff.

  • Effective observation skills.

  • Ability to deal well with pressure and complaints.

  • Able to maintain professional demeanor in a high stress environment.

  • Ability to present oneself in a professional manner through appearance and conduct.

  • Ability to utilize PPE and equipment, e.g. patient bed, gurneys, etc.

  • Computer skills/familiarity.
