This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution that supports the strategic outcomes of the Business' Products and Services. Key responsibilities include defining the target operating environment, designing for client resiliency, assisting with solution design, and defining non-functional requirements. Job expectations include working with stakeholders and service providers aligned to the Business' strategic objectives, evaluating the impact of strategic design decisions, and contributing to the architecture roadmap.
Position Summary:
ITGPST (International Technology and Global Payments Solutions Technology) seeks a candidate to manage and own architectural end to end solution design, as well as requirements refinement/deliverable decomposition to support regulatory and business enablement payments initiatives across regions. Projects will include annual regulatory updates from Swift/ISO/FedWire/Chips, fulfilling regional Clearing requirements, and business enablement initiatives such as standing up new product rails. The candidate will lead architecture shaping activities, drive design innovations, and partner across business and technology organizations to deliver resilient, secure, and future-ready payment solutions.
Responsibilities:
Works across the business, operations and technology to create the solution intent and architectural vision for complex solutions and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements into a technology backlog to enable the technology roadmap and functionality to support evolving capabilities and services
Contributes to the creation of the architecture roadmap of defined domains (Business, Application, Data, and Technology) in support of the product roadmap and the development of best practices including standardized templates
Clarifies the architecture, assists with system design to support implementation, and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
Facilitates solution driven discussions, leads the design of complex architectures, and finds creative solutions through knowledge of domain, practical experiments, and proof of concepts while ensuring architecture is flexible, modular, and adaptable
Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
Supports the team as needed to select the technology stack required for solutions and helps select preferred technology products
Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
The candidate will be responsible for performing end to end solutioning and architectural design on critical payments programs
Work closely with stakeholders including payments product managers, operations teams, engineering teams to provide E2E technical solutions which successfully deliver business functionalities
Create and maintain clear and thorough technical documentation on E2E designs
Establish and enforce non-functional requirements including resiliency, scalability, SLA, availability, security, observability, and operational readiness.
Identify architectural impediments, develop remediation plans, and drive resolution across business and technology stakeholders.
Conduct architecture reviews and provide governance to ensure solutions comply with enterprise standards, technology strategies, and risk controls.
Partners with Product Managers, Project Managers, and Engineering teams to prioritize technology-focused backlog items and ensure timely delivery of business outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
10+ years experience with distributed architecture patterns, including microservices‑based design, containerized deployment models, API‑driven integrations, and event‑based messaging using platforms such as MQ and Kafka
Candidate must have the ability to set and promote design strategies across various facets of the business and technology organizations
Strong product knowledge in core payments processing systems; to drive end‑to‑end solution design across channels, middleware, payment engine, reporting, accounting, clearing, etc
Expertise in evaluating technology tradeoffs, conducting architecture reviews, and guiding enterprise design decisions
Must have interpersonal skills with a proven track record of interacting with different groups and various levels of a large organization
Translate regulatory and business requirements into scalable, resilient platform designs, decompose complex initiatives into deliverable increments, and ensure alignment across channel, integration, and core processing layers
Experience working across synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns is critical for payment orchestration and clearing flows
Desired Qualifications:
Hands on experience with AI models and tools, such as Copilot, Claude, etc
Experiences working with payments rails/products a plus, such as FedWire, Chips, TCH, SEPA, Wires, ACH, Real Time Payments, etc
Ability to provide mentorship to more junior team members and provide architectural guidance
