Job Purpose
NewPoint Real Estate Capital is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support its accounting and finance operations. This role is well suited for an accounting professional with a strong foundation in general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting, ideally within commercial real estate, lending, mortgage finance, or a related financial-services environment.
The Staff Accountant will assist with monthly close, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial and regulatory reporting, and audit support. Reporting to the Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller, this individual will work closely with accounting leadership, finance, loan production, servicing, and other business partners. This role has no direct reports.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with established policies and U.S. GAAP.
- Maintain general ledger accounts and investigate, document, and resolve reconciling items and variances in areas related to loan originations, servicing activities, financing transactions, accrued interest, and related commercial real estate lending activity.
- Support accounts payable, expense reporting, and vendor payment processes as assigned.
- Assist with preparing SEC filings, financial statements, regulatory and compliance reporting, audit schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Help maintain accounting policies, procedures, documentation, internal controls, and the confidentiality of financial information.
- Research and interpret accounting and financial data; identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency; assist with special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CPA-track preferred.
- Relevant accounting experience preferred; public accounting or financial-services accounting experience is a plus.
- Experience with commercial real estate, real estate lending, mortgage finance, loan servicing, or related industries preferred.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and fundamental internal control concepts.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and across teams.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word, as well as accounting and financial reporting systems.
