Purpose

The Maintenance Technician assures equipment, and building meets regulatory requirements for safe operation.  The Maintenance Technician also maintains and repairs machinery and all functions of the building, including refrigeration systems, fire systems, and alarm systems.   

Responsibilities

  • Service and repair all warehouse equipment and provide required documentation for each service performed 
  • Complete daily work orders and PM’s scheduled for all rolling equipment
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC units, fire systems, and refrigeration systems
  • Schedule routine building maintenance by performing mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs, contacting external contractors as needed
  • Solicit bids from outside contractors and oversee project and repairs performed by contractors
  • Performs plumbing, electrical, concrete, and any other carpentry duties necessary for the maintenance of the building
  • Perform exterior jobs including but not limited to snow removal, lawn mowing/trimming, pruning of shrubs/bushes, strips and landscape improvements as required
  • Perform preventative maintenance for facilities, fixtures, equipment, and machinery
  • Adhere to company policies, standards and best practices
  • Communicate with DC management daily updating management on issues that pertain to the property and equipment
  • Anhydrous ammonia (such as in refrigeration or chemical processing), the technician is also responsible for safely operating, maintaining, and monitoring these specialized hazardous systems
  • Anhydrous Ammonia Operations: Monitor, maintain, and repair ammonia refrigeration or processing systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and valves
  • System Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues across a wide range of industrial equipment
  • Strictly adhere to OSHA, EPA, and PSM (Process Safety Management) standards,
  • You will be primarily responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing our physical plant infrastructure and machinery. Given the nature of our operations, this role requires strict adherence to hazardous materials protocols and direct experience managing anhydrous ammonia equipment.

About You

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read numbers and understand English
  • Positive work history including safety and attendance
  • Training as an industrial equipment repairperson at a mechanical training school with certification as a forklift mechanic
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the maintenance of industrial equipment and machinery.
  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent; technical certification in industrial maintenance, HVAC, or refrigeration preferred. Minimum of 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience, specifically with anhydrous ammonia systems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic concepts as well as knowledge of programmable controllers for mechanical equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to travel up to 10 days per year
  • Willingness to work required shift schedules and varying days of the week including holidays and/or weekends as well as being on call in emergency situations
  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator), CARO (Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator) is a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to bend, twist, kneel, squat, turn, reach, pull, push, balance and lift objects up to 85 pounds, in a fast-paced environment for extended period of time
  • Must be able to transport various objects weighing 20-85 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift
  • Must have the ability to stand, walk and move about for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to stand and balance throughout the shift while operating industrial equipment
  • Regularly works in warehouse environment with heat and cold, including freezers, coolers and refrigerators in temperatures as low as -15 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Physical Demands: stand or walk for extended periods, and work at elevated heights or in extreme temperature conditions.
