(EHS) Coordinator/Specialist

Location: Pleasanton, Texas
Position Type: Full-Time
Work Schedule: On-Site 7am-430pm Monday-Friday 

Position Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator assists in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety programs for Tomball Controls' welding and fabrication manufacturing facility in Pleasanton, Texas. This position supports a safe work environment while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

This role works closely with production, welding, fabrication, maintenance, and management teams to identify hazards, reduce risk, investigate incidents, and promote a proactive culture of safety throughout the facility. The position requires a hands-on presence on the manufacturing floor and regular interaction with employees and contractors.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining Environmental Health & Safety policies, programs, and procedures for a welding and metal fabrication manufacturing facility.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, facility audits, and hazard assessments throughout production, fabrication, welding, assembly, warehouse, and outdoor work areas.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors, recommend corrective actions, and verify completion of improvements.
  • Support compliance with OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, TCEQ regulations, and other applicable federal, state, and local environmental and safety standards.
  • Coordinate and conduct employee safety orientation and ongoing training, including but not limited to:
    • OSHA compliance
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Welding and Hot Work Safety
    • Fire Prevention
    • Hazard Communication
    • Forklift Safety
    • Respiratory Protection
    • Hearing Conservation
  • Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for manufacturing, welding, fabrication, maintenance, and field support activities.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, property damage, and near misses; determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Perform regular inspections of welding operations to ensure proper ventilation, fire prevention, compressed gas cylinder storage, welding screens, PPE compliance, and hot work practices.
  • Assist with industrial hygiene monitoring including noise exposure, welding fumes, airborne contaminants, and ergonomic risk assessments.
  • Review safety, handling, storage, transportation, and disposal requirements for chemicals, hazardous materials, compressed gases, paints, solvents, and welding consumables.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure compliance with Hazard Communication requirements.
  • Coordinate contractor safety programs and monitor contractor compliance while working on company property.
  • Assist in emergency preparedness activities including fire prevention, evacuation planning, emergency response drills, spill response, and first aid coordination.
  • Lead or participate in safety committee meetings and promote employee engagement in continuous safety improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identify trends, and prepare reports for management.
  • Maintain accurate records including:
    • OSHA logs
    • Incident reports
    • Training documentation
    • Inspection records
    • Corrective action tracking
    • Environmental compliance documentation
  • Assist with environmental compliance activities including waste management, recycling, stormwater awareness, and hazardous waste handling.
  • Collaborate with production supervisors and department managers to improve workplace safety while supporting operational efficiency.
  • Stay current on changes to OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, and industry best practices.

Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field. 
  • Relevant work experience may be substituted for education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Environmental Health & Safety experience.
  • Manufacturing experience required; experience in welding, metal fabrication, industrial equipment manufacturing, or construction environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting OSHA compliance programs within an industrial manufacturing facility.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards including:
  • Strong understanding of industrial hazards associated with welding, fabrication, grinding, cutting, material handling, cranes, forklifts, compressed gases, and heavy equipment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and interpret regulations, technical manuals, engineering drawings, and safety documentation.
  • Excellent verbal communication, presentation, and employee training skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Effective program management and continuous improvement skills.


Physical Requirement


  • Frequent walking throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to welding operations, machinery, noise, dust, heat, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, gloves, and respiratory protection when required.
