Job Summary

The Operating Room Scheduler performs scheduling and secretarial duties for the Department of Surgical Services

Essential Functions

The essential functions listed below are general examples and not a description of comprehensive duties.  Specific duties and responsibilities may vary depending on department or program needs without changing nature or scope of this position or level of responsibility.  May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. 

  • Schedules surgical procedures in computer, accurately watching for equipment conflicts to include OR, GI Lab, MPR and medical admits
  • Responsible for following proctoring protocol for new physicians, physician privileges and suspension lists and notifies Supervisor of any problems with these.
  • Communicates with appropriate departments and resources the delays, cancellations, and add-on of surgical cases
  • Maintains surgery schedule without conflicts.  Prints surgery schedule as needed and distributes to appropriate areas
  • Functions as a knowledgeable resource person for scheduling grid application
  • Reviews all faxes the night before for accuracy and confirms all codes, diagnosis and authorizations are complete.
  • Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford Healthcare – ValleyCare’s patient-experience and represents a framework for patient-centered interactions

Job Qualifications

Education   

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Experience

  • Previous experience in medical setting preferred

License/Certification

  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Good communication skills with the ability to read, write and understand the English language
  • Ability to work as a valued team member
  • Problem identification and resolution skills
  • Effective organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $28.84 - $37.08 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
