We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate (2–5 years of experience) to support and accelerate assay development efforts. This role will work closely with other members of the Product Development team to execute, optimize, and characterize single-cell workflows and reagents.
This is a hands-on laboratory role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and wants to contribute meaningfully to building robust, scalable genomic products.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute single-cell assay development experiments under the direction of senior scientists.
- Prepare and characterize reagents used in single-cell workflows (e.g., enzymes, buffers, primers, beads, barcoding reagents).
- Perform core molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid manipulation, reverse transcription, PCR/qPCR, ligation, enzymatic reactions, and NGS library preparation.
- Design and execute optimization experiments using structured experimental design (DOE) approaches to evaluate assay parameters and reagent formulations.
- Prepare and test buffer and reagent formulations and characterize their performance in assay workflows.
- Run assays and optimization experiments using liquid-handling automation platforms (e.g., Agilent Bravo) and assist in adapting workflows for automation.
- Perform and maintain mammalian cell culture to support assay validation and testing workflows.
- Generate high-quality, reproducible data and maintain detailed experimental records.
- Help develop reagent QC and assay performance testing methods using qPCR, ddPCR, NGS-based, and other analytical readouts.
- Help scale workflows for robustness, reproducibility, and eventual automation.
- Maintain laboratory organization, inventory, and equipment calibration.
- Contribute to SOP development and documentation as processes mature.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Bioengineering, or related field.
- 2–5 years of relevant industry or advanced academic laboratory experience.
- Strong hands-on molecular biology skills (PCR, qPCR, enzymatic reactions, NGS library prep).
- Experience working with complex biological workflows requiring careful technique and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to generate reproducible data and troubleshoot experiments.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment with evolving priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with single-cell genomics workflows (e.g., scRNA-seq, barcoding methods, droplet or bead-based systems).
- Familiarity with bead handling, surface chemistry, or conjugation methods.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and sterile technique.
- Experience with NGS QC methods (Bioanalyzer, TapeStation, Qubit, fragment analysis).
- Exposure to automation platforms or high-throughput workflows.
- Experience using basic statistical tools or data analysis software.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
- Consistently produces high-quality, reproducible data.
- Increases experimental throughput and reliability for the assay development team.
- Proactively identifies workflow improvements.
- Operates with independence while collaborating effectively.
- Embodies and reinforces a culture of rigor, efficiency, and accountability.
