Job Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring products and processes meet internal quality standards and customer, regulatory, and industry requirements.  This role partners closely with manufacturing, engineering, and operations to drive continuous improvement, reduce defects, an support a strong quality culture.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all internal and external quality issues from both customers and supplier as assigned.
  • Review and update required documentation.
  • Communicate with customers on issues regarding Product Quality and navigate OEM portals.
  • Participate in implementation and effectiveness of customer related corrective actions and aid in the investigation and response to customer complaints regarding Product Quality.
  • Ensure Best Practices are followed throughout the Design Process.
  • Conduct process audits to ensure accuracy of paperwork and inspection aids are present meeting the line process flow. (i.e. changes made from Engineering Changes, Corrective Actions or Process Changes)
  • Ensure that the requirements of the Control Plan are being fulfilled. (i.e. Control methods are being followed as documented, equipment is monitored as per the Control Plan)
  • Develop and obtain customer approved boundary samples and maintenance of the boundary samples throughout the production cycle.
  • Support Training when necessary. (i.e. boundary samples, quality alerts, spc etc.)
  • Responsible for scrap reduction initiatives as it relates to reduction in Risk Prior Numbers. (RPN) Support and drive as required.
  • Participate in pre-launch programs with regards to design and specifications required.
  • Timely closure of Engineering Changes Action Items.
  • Responsible for Management of the containment activities internal and external.
  • Assess manufacturing issues to ensure quality systems/error proofing is not compromised (process deviation)
  • Review component drawings and understand the application requirements for each component. Understand all performance and engineering specifications applied to the parts.
  • Maintain control of rejected parts in the plant Hold Area as per Nonconforming Material Process (NCM).
  • Review Warranty returns, follow up communications with customers and provide analysis of data as required.
  • Review and analysis of dimensional data from 1st piece layouts, gauge R&R and capability studies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Engineering Degree required with certification as an CQE
  • 3 years’ minimum experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Possess/Develop a strong understanding of: Core Tools (APQP, SPC, MSA, FMEA & PPAP), Control Plans, Process Flows, Root Cause Analysis/Practical Problem Solving.
  • Proficient in and learning Business Operating Systems (i.e.IATF 16949, IMDS, QSI, OEM Customer Requirements)
  • Knowledge of various processes (i.e. molding, coating, assembly etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic concepts of design output, metrology and instrumentation

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft office; including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, minitab etc.
  • Ability to efficiently work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Proficient in dimensional systems and analysis.
  • Effective communication (written & verbal) with various departments and with customer plant liaisons.
  • Organization of documentation, records, time, priority setting and deadlines.
  • Self-Motivated, ability to initiate and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Able to travel locally and work flexible hours to accommodate supplier support.
