The Data Architect at Rockland Trust is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the bank’s enterprise data architecture. This role defines how data is stored, integrated, accessed, and governed across systems to support business strategy, regulatory compliance, and data-driven decision-making.
This role is based in Plymouth with a hybrid model.
Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data Architecture
- Design and implement modern, enterprise-wide data architecture frameworks and standardsÂ
- Define how data is stored, integrated, accessed, and managed across systemsÂ
- Develop and maintain an enterprise data strategy aligned with business objectivesÂ
Â
Data Modeling & Systems Design
- Lead the design and development of:Â
- Data warehouses (DW) and operational data stores (ODS)Â
- Logical and physical data modelsÂ
- Integration with data quality toolsÂ
- Design scalable data structures to support analytics and reportingÂ
Â
Data Governance, Security & Compliance
- Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, policies, and standardsÂ
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, SOX, CCPA)Â
- Maintain high standards of data quality, integrity, and security across the organizationÂ
Performance & Optimization
- Monitor database performance and data workloadsÂ
- Optimize systems for scalability, reliability, and efficiencyÂ
- Recommend and implement performance tuning and improvement strategiesÂ
Â
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide technical leadership to data engineers, analysts, and other stakeholdersÂ
- Influence enterprise data initiatives and IT policiesÂ
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business units and external vendors Â
Â
Tools & Technology Strategy
- Evaluate, select, and implement data platforms and toolsÂ
- Work with technologies such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, and Azure data platformsÂ
- Stay current with emerging data technologies and industry trendsÂ
Â
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related fieldÂ
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in data architecture, database design, and data management (preferably in banking or financial services)Â
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsÂ
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly languageÂ
- Excellent leadership and communication skillsÂ
Technical Skills
- Data modeling tools (e.g., ERwin, ER/Studio)Â
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with NoSQL databasesÂ
- Experience with Snowflake and modern data platformsÂ
- Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and modern data architecture patterns Â
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance frameworks
