GENERAL SUMMARY

The Director of Nursing (DON) assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the clinic. They are responsible for managing the clinical team and allocating department resources in an efficient and economic manner to ensure the highest level of patient care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation.
  • Participates in daily or weekly management team meetings to discuss staff statuses, census changes, personnel or patient issues.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and application of key quality indicators, and proactively monitors and implements systems to achieve and/or surpass company thresholds.
  • Collaborates with physicians, consultants, community agencies, and institutions to improve the quality of clinical services and to resolve identified problems.
  • Manages the daily clinical operations of the practice while maintaining a professional workplace.
  • Ensures that the physicians and staff are complying with healthcare regulations, medical laws and high ethical standards.
  • Supervises the selection and ordering of medical or office supplies and other clinical purchases.
  • Maintains a comprehensive Infection Prevention Program with surveillance, documentation / trending, analysis of the data and monthly reports. Assists with problem identification and resolution.
  • Provides Infection prevention training and oversees that equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are used properly following infection prevention policies and standards of practice guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
  • Assures compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA and AHCA as well as maintaining proper licensure, logs and records as needed per city and county.
  • Ensures adherence to the plan, rules and regulations of applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and/or accrediting agencies. Operationalizes and assures compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and Patient Safety regulations at the service line level.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
  • Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • RN license and certification required by state.
  • BLS certification required. ACLS preferred.

  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required, Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3 years in nursing administration or a comparable management position.
  • 2 years of professional nursing experience, preferably in a urology practice setting.
