Job Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate plastic injection molding machines to mold thermoplastic parts.
  • Observe continuous operation of injection molding machines to ensure that parts meet specifications and to detect any machine malfunctions or product defects, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Measure and visually inspect products for surface and dimension defects to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments and completing first-off – last off documents.
  • Mold installation and start-up, shut-down and removal.
  • Ensure all auxiliary equipment is set to the correct settings per the baselines.
  • Maintain best operating parameters (baselines) for tool and make any adjustments required to cycle the tool automatically. Follow proper deviation process if parameters adjusted outside tolerance. Troubleshooting and understanding the machine functions/setting issues.
  • Monitor tool cleanliness and ensure tool cleaning is conducted as required.
  • Ensure correct raw material is being supplied to the molding equipment, and proper material drying specifications are being followed.
  • Perform maintenance work such as cleaning and oiling machines.
  • Observe machine parameters and gauges to verify consistency of temperatures, pressures, and press-cycle times, etc.
  • Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Assume Supervisor responsibilities when required – scrap reporting/headcount.
  • Read specifications, blueprints, and work orders to determine setups, temperatures, and time settings required to mold plastic materials, as well as to plan production sequences.
  • Operate hoists to position mold tools on storage racks, inside press or on floor.
  • Preheat molding tools using specified equipment.
  • Select and install end of arm tooling (EOAT) or other attachments for each operation.
  • Issue work orders for molding equipment or tools as required.
  • Optimize process to reduce scrap and improve throughput.
  • Degate and pack parts as required.
  • Communicate with Process Techs shift to shift, to understand/pass-on, the current status of the operation as well as any operational issues. 
  • Review and sign all communications at the beginning of the shift, i.e. Quality Alerts.
  • Work with engineering group to develop baseline programs, support trial efforts and implement improvement ideas
  • Any other reasonable request by management.

Required Skills

  • Completion of Secondary School diploma (2 or 4 year Mechanical degree).
  • Ability to learn and comprehend basic tool construction.
  • Self-motivated, ability to follow-up on task through to completion.
  • Injection Mold Tool Setting Experience.
  • Knowledge of plastic materials and process parameters for injection molding.
  • Certified Overhead Crane Operator.
  • Experience with end of arm tooling (EOAT) set-up.
  • Experience with hand tools and torque wrenches.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude (instrumentation, pneumatics, hydraulics).
  • Strength and ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills, including technically with various departments.
