Founded in 1978, Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A. (Formosa Plastics) is a growing, vertically-integrated supplier of plastic resins and petrochemicals. Formosa Plastics offers a full line of polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene and polypropylene resins, caustic soda and other petrochemicals that deliver the consistency, performance and quality that customers demand. Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
This position is responsible for developing and optimizing new and existing SPVC resin products across a range of application processes, while providing technical support to customers and internal business partners to drive product performance and SPVC resin sales. The role delivers creative, value-adding solutions to operating units through process, product, and application improvements. All responsibilities are carried out while ensuring a safe and healthful work environment in full compliance with applicable environmental, health, safety, and company requirements.

Process Safety, Environmental, & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all Process Safety Management (PSM), environmental, health, and security requirements. Apply recognized process and safety tools to evaluate operational effectiveness, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and company programs. Partner with engineering and operations to implement improvements in accordance with best engineering practices and corporate standards. Support audits, inspections, and incident investigations to drive continual improvement and risk reduction.

Operations Support & Reliability: Provide technical and regulatory support to Operating Units to enable safe, stable, and efficient operations. Support smooth production of high-quality products by minimizing process upsets, environmental releases, and unplanned downtime. Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance to address equipment, process, and housekeeping issues, ensuring compliance with NTG (Nothing Touching the Ground), NVP (No Visual Pollution), and THM (Total Housekeeping Management) standards.

Customer Focus and Product Oversight: Serve as a technical interface for customers by responding accurately and promptly to customer inquiries, complaints, and product performance issues. Investigate root causes through data review and process analysis, provide technical guidance, and recommend product or process improvements. Communicate clearly with customers, sales, and internal stakeholders to align on specifications, quality expectations, solutions, and delivery commitments, while strengthening internal and external relationships.

Product, Technology, and Continuous Improvement: Lead and support product and application development initiatives to improve product quality, competitiveness, and customer value. Initiate and execute trials, analyze results, and recommend process or product enhancements that drive value creation and cost savings. Leverage data, benchmarking, and new technologies to advance product performance and manufacturing efficiency. Prepare and present technical reports, findings, and recommendations to support decision-making.

Collaboration, Reporting, and Organizational Support: Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Sales, Marketing, and external partners to resolve issues and support business objectives. Develop, maintain, and present accurate technical, customer, and performance reports. Support training, audits, regulatory inspections, and other assigned responsibilities. Travel as required and complete all training in accordance with the Master Training Plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education
- Bachelor of Science degree preferably in Chemical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Sciences and Engineering, or Chemistry required; other related engineering disciplines considered. M.S. or Ph.D. degree in one of these fields is preferred.
- Previous Related Experience Required
- (0 – 5) years of experience in R&D or technical support, including product formulation, processing trials, process optimization, and cross-functional production scale-up. A strong academic or practical background in polymer science, chemical analysis, problem-solving, customer-facing technical service, and troubleshooting is desirable.
- Technical Skills Required to Perform This Job
- Skilled in PC applications and technical software.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
- Deep knowledge of polymer structure, processing, and additives.
- Understanding of manufacturing operations and process impacts.
- Experienced in analyzing plant data and solving technical problems.
