Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Certified Surgical Technician in our Surgical Services Department.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Responsible for the direct patient care within the Operating Room under the supervision of the registered nurse. Follows departmental standards,

policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.

The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

 

  1. Performs surgical hand scrub, sets up back table and Mayo stand for

     handling instruments and assisting surgeon during surgical cases

     assigned.

 

  1. Ensures that the use of sterile asepsis during surgical procedures

     are maintained.

 

  1. Follows departmental policies for decontamination of surgical suites

     at the beginning, between and on completion of surgical cases during

     the shift.

 

  1. Assists in decontamination, disinfecting and/or sterilization of all

     instrumentation and equipment.

 

  1. Ensures adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated

     caseload during course of the shift.

 

  1. Transports patients, supplies and specimens as directed.

 

  1. Works in harmonious manner with team members.

 

 

  1. Delivers care according to hospital and departmental policies,

     procedures and philosophies.

 

  1. Practices positive customer relations techniques.

 

  1. Respects patients’ privacy, rights and values and provides care

     accordingly.

 

  1. Attends educational offerings. Must maintain minimum of 16 contact

     hours annually.

 

  1. Assists in re-stocking and ordering supplies for the Operating Room

     suites and warmers.

 

  1. Follows safety and infection control policies and procedures within

     the department.

 

  1. Attends unit meetings.

 

  1. Assists in orienting new employees.

 

  1. Participates in hospital wide, interdisciplinary CQI process as

     directed.

 

  1. Takes responsibility for specific projects which will ensure

     compliance to standards of environment of care, management

     information, care of patients and infection control.

 

  1. Completes all annual competencies for assigned areas of

     responsibility.

 

  1. Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.

 

  1. Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.

 

  1. Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on

     quality improvement teams.

 

  1. Performs other related duties as required.

 

  1. Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and

     Procedures and Employee Handbook.

 

  1. Cross-trains to other areas as assigned.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

 

High school education.  Graduate of accredited surgical technology program or equivalent experience required. Certified ORT preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be able to withstand long periods of standing.  Must be able to walk, lift and assist in the transporting of patients.  Must be able to work in areas where cleaning and disinfecting chemicals are used.  Must demonstrate visual and aural acuity.  Must demonstrate manual dexterity to manipulate instruments and equipment. 

 

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

 

One year OR tech. preferred.
