Description
The Maintenance Carpenter is responsible for the repair, installation, and upkeep of all structural and decorative woodwork, fixtures, and building components throughout the school campus. Â This role ensures that the facility remains safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing while maintaining the school's infrastructure in excellent condition. Duties include:
- Inspect, repair, and replace doors, windows, and their associated hardware (closers, hinges, locks).
- Repair and maintain various flooring systems, including hardwood, tile, VCT, and laminate.
- Patch and repair wall systems, including drywall, plaster, and masonry.
- Maintain the building’s exterior "envelope," including siding, trim, fascia, and basic roofing repairs.
- Construct or install custom cabinetry, shelving, and office furniture.
- Perform finish carpentry, including installing baseboards, crown molding, and window casings.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans to execute new projects accurately.
- Conduct safety inspections of structural elements (stairwells, railings, decks) and address hazards immediately.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop and job site to prevent accidents.
- Utilize a digital work-order systemÂ
- Estimate material costs and time requirements for specific projects.
- Collaborate with other trades (Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC) on multi-disciplinary renovation projects.
- Participates in special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications:Â
- 3–5 years of professional carpentry experience in a commercial, industrial, or institutional setting.
- High school diploma or GED. Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship or trade school certification is highly preferred.
- Expertise in operating power tools (table saws, miter saws, routers, drills) and hand tools.
- Strong mathematical skills for measuring, leveling, and calculating material needs.
- Basic knowledge of related trades (painting, flooring, and masonry).
- Attention to Detail: Pride in craftsmanship and ensuring repairs are seamless and durable.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose structural issues and determine the most cost-effective and long-lasting solution.
- Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the ability to work discreetly in occupied spaces.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs independently.
- Ability to work in various conditions (climbing ladders, kneeling, and working outdoors in inclement weather).
- License: A valid driver’s license is required.
