Job Description:
The R&D Lab Technical Specialist II provides the opportunity to support the development of new materials, processes, and products for orthodontics. This person will be expected to interface with employees at all levels in various departments, including R&D, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Technical Services, Regulatory Affairs, and Procurement.
Key responsibilities involve testing and analysis utilizing a variety of engineering fixtures and machines. The ideal candidate makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results while needing minimal instructions on routine tasks and general instructions on new assignments.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support all engineering test and analysis initiatives related to new product development, sustaining engineering, RA/QA, and general operations.
- Prepare samples for testing.
- Perform tests using a variety of lab measuring equipment.
- Document results using good documentation practices.
- Analyze data and report accurate and timely summaries of experiments.
- Provide technical analysis on new test requirements and methods; provide feedback to the broader team.
- Provide recommendations for improvement regarding test methods, test fixtures, and general lab practices.
- Maintain and organize cabinets and equipment within the lab.
- Maintain good laboratory housekeeping and a safe work environment.
- Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
- Be responsible for maintaining safety and cleanliness of R&D lab areas.
- Order chemicals, products, and lab supplies.
- Collect, document, analyze, and manage experimental data according to requirements.
- Attend appropriate meetings—technical and core team—providing updates as required.
Job Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related disciplines
- Minimum 2 years’ lab testing experience in medical device R&D or related industries
- Demonstrable experience using an Instron tester and Blue Hill software programming
- Strong MS Office Suite skills, particularly Excel and Word
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years’ experience in an R&D environment
- Dental experience is a plus
- A proven record of working successfully with personnel at all levels of the organization
- Ability to work under pressure or within tight schedules
- Ability to problem-solve
- Ability to recognize and prioritize tasks
- Experience using Minitab for statistical analysis
- Ownership of test data
- Excellent written, verbal, computer, and interpersonal skills
- Team player, willing to go the extra mile
- Knowledge of GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) and GDP (Good Documentation Practices)
- Experience in orthodontic and/or dental research
