The LeadĀ Respiratory TherapistĀ as the on-siteĀ Clinical LeaderĀ is responsible forĀ providing professional leadership.Ā The Lead RTĀ is responsible forĀ facilitatingĀ staff assignments and coordination of work ofĀ Respiratory TherapyĀ personnel.Ā The Lead RTĀ acts as a resource person. InĀ addition, theyĀ canĀ performĀ all functions of a Registered Respiratory Therapist.Ā The Lead RT can also performĀ various advanced practice therapeutic proceduresĀ such as IABP, support NICU, nitricĀ oxideĀ andĀ EpoprostenolĀ administrations.Ā The Lead RTĀ participatesĀ in orientation of staff and student training programsĀ representingĀ the Respiratory Care department in but not limited to, job shadowing, simulationĀ trainingĀ and teaching of core specific classes forĀ TrinityĀ HealthĀ which is a teaching institution.Ā Ā Works collaboratively withĀ Manager,Ā DirectorĀ and ClinicalĀ Educator acting in a supervisory role with regards to personnel management.Ā

Facilitates orientation/precepting, training programs, skillĀ updatesĀ and procedure reviews for staff.Ā

Makes patient roundsĀ observingĀ cardiopulmonary staff to ensure treatment is providedĀ in accordance withĀ physician’s orders and approved medical protocol, and that equipment is working properly.Ā 

Ā 

Functions as a resource person to staff in resolution of difficult non-routine problems requiring ability to trouble shoot procedures or equipment.Ā 

Ā 

Maintains adequate levels of cardiopulmonary equipment and supplies. Acts as a resource to obtain equipment in an emergency.Ā 

Ā 

Performs as a clinical expert in adapting cardiopulmonary therapy and procedures to neonates, children and adolescents,Ā adults,Ā and geriatrics.Ā 

Ā 

Performs non-routineĀ procedures includingĀ but not limited toĀ assisting,Ā set-up and monitoring of the intra-aortic balloon pump deviceĀ (Ann Arbor), attending infant deliveriesĀ and bedside pulmonary function testing.Ā

Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Respiratory Therapist per AARC guidelines, obtains andĀ maintainsĀ competencies per RT II job description. Some examples below:Ā

Other emergency situations: IABP/Cath lab (Ann Arbor)Ā 

Participates in patient roundsĀ Ā

Ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition and contacts repair personnel and alertsĀ The LeadĀ Therapists as appropriateĀ

KnowsĀ the procedure for oxygen and medical air shutdowns.Ā 

Understands and takes an active role to stay updatedĀ on hospitalĀ and departmental policies and proceduresĀ

Assists the Respiratory Care Manager with employee evaluationsĀ 

Provide/complete quarterly feedback on staff related to competency validations for bi-yearly evaluation.Ā

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSUREĀ

Education:Ā 

  • Graduate of aĀ two-yearĀ advanced practitioner -Accredited Respiratory Therapist program:Ā RegistryĀ eligible.Ā 

  • Bachelor’s degreeĀ PreferredĀ Ā 

  • Maintains current ā€œRRTā€ Registered Respiratory Therapist credentialĀ 

  • Maintains valid State of Michigan License in Respiratory CareĀ 

  • 2-3 years related work experience.Ā Ā Ā 

  • Respiratory Care Leadership experience preferredĀ Ā

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABLILITESĀ
