Job Purpose 

The Crisis Counselor is responsible for providing quality crisis assessment and intervention to individuals presenting to the Behavioral Health Crisis Center in a timely and responsible manner. 

Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related Field 
  • Must have all necessary course work and meet all the requirements to be licensed within the State of Missouri, at a minimum be eligible to begin supervision OR 
  • Must meet the Department of Mental Health’s Criteria for Qualified Mental Health Professional

Core Job Duties 

  • Conduct Crisis Assessments to determine appropriate level of care. 
  • Provide Crisis Interventions. 
  • Maintains working knowledge of all civil involuntary detention procedures. 
  • Discharge/transition/aftercare plans completed accurately and in a timely manner. 
  • Provide lethal means counseling and complete safety plan with clients. 
  • Adherence to all applicable evidence-based practice models. 
  • Maintain client records, following agency and state regulations. 
  • Interface with other community partners such as law enforcement, emergency medical personnel, etc. 
  • Orally communicate information effectively and accurately. 
  • Assure program operates within the constraints of the agency’s certification (CARF, DMH) standards and strategic plan related to clinical care. 
  • Abide by program and agency policies and procedures. 
  • Other job duties and special projects as assigned.
