Job Description

Position Purpose: 

Responsible for operating, monitoring, start up and shut down of the chemical waste incineration and accessory equipment associated with a power plant operation including APC. Ensure safe, efficient, and effective incineration processes in accordance with permits and compliance regulations in the disposal and discharge of solid and liquid waste products.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Make appropriate control panel adjustments to maintain permit parameters and to ensure that all equipment is working properly in accordance with standard operating conditions throughout the disposal of waste materials.   
  • Take appropriate measures and direct field personnel to correct any emergency conditions by responding to alarms while maintaining normal running conditions. 
  • Keep accurate and complete logbook entries, transfer logs, burn plan downtime log, etc., and verify that burn plan and kiln data is correct and accurate to insure meeting regulatory requirements. 
  • Follow daily burn plans and report any problems or discrepancies in the plan that may result in inefficiencies and or backlog of operations.  
  • Note any maintenance items that need to be addressed to keep equipment in good operating order and as required, lend assistance in the maintenance process.    
  • Maintain a safe, clean, neat, and well organized work area by monitoring spills, leaks or potential fire hazards to effectively handle problems to insure efficiency and effectiveness of waste treatment with minimal disruption to the facility.                    
  • Other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Associate’s degree with an emphasis in environmental skills preferred  
  • Prior work experience of 5 year in the hazardous waste industry or control room power plant operation

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Proficient in handling forklift, backhoe, and other heavy equipment, and a variety of tools preferred

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • Attain and maintain a Boiler License
  • Complete Learning Paths associated with position
  • Must be able to obtain respirator certifications and maintain fit test compliance
  • Emergency Response Team Training
  • 40 Hours Hazwoper (Company will provide training)
