General and business knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma

Experience:

2-3 years of underwriting experience, Credit union operations, including loan experience preferred

Position Overview:

Utilizing authorized authority, and recommendation to the lending management team when necessary, to examine, evaluate, and authorize approval of borrower’s applications for credit, extension of lines of credit, or consumer loans. Must be a decision maker with tolerance for risk, while understanding the credit unions lending guidelines and regulations.  

Essential Job Functions

  • Works with completed applications provided by the loan interviewers to make decisions on extending credit.
  • Analyzes applicant financial status, credit, and collateral evaluation to determine feasibility of approving, denying or countering loans. Forwards results and information to the loan interviewer in a timely manner. 
  • Corresponds and converses with interviewers frequently to resolve questions regarding application information provided, and further delve into the members situation to assist in being able to grant credit to the member.
  • Must decision with a high tolerance for risk while considering the credit unions policy guidelines and requirements according to regulations. Be able to think outside of the box and exercise good judgement. 
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables, where guidelines are available but extensive individual evaluation is required. 
  • Ability to interpret and understand loan policy, procedural manuals, and compliance with appropriate regulations. 
  • Analyzes potential lending opportunities involved in each lending situation to further assist the borrower as well as increase the credit unions lending portfolio. 
  • Assist in attaining the lending goals and objectives of the credit union.
  • Must have a professional approach to assessing the needs of the members.  
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with members and staff. 
  • Comply with credit union policies and procedures. 
  • Observe an ethical and “non-hostile” work environment

Working conditions/Physical demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally, in writing and electronic channels
  • Ability to receive information and hear sounds at normal speaking levels under normal conditions in an office setting. 
  • Visually able to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading. 
  • Sufficient manual skill for operation of PC keyboard and other standard office equipment 
  • Ability to exert minimum amounts of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. 
  • Ability to travel occasionally for credit union functions.
