As a Home Comfort Specialist, you will be provided with warm leads which you will convert into sales of residential HVAC systems and equipment. This is a highly visible position in which you will identify customers' HVAC needs through effective presentations and you will develop appropriate system solutions based on those needs. You will use your HVAC expertise to advise homeowners on the best possible products and services for their homes. The ability to generate and close leads, as well as developing a strong network are keys to success. You will also coordinate with our installation and operations departments to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Technical Product Knowledge

Demonstrates expert knowledge of residential HVAC systems and can confidently recommend the best solution based on the customer's home, comfort concerns, and budget.
Thorough understanding of air-source heat pumps, including cold-climate performance, inverter technology, dual-fuel applications, and utility incentive programs.
Extensive knowledge of ductless mini-split systems, including single-zone and multi-zone applications, sizing, placement, and installation requirements.
Proficient in selling electric heat pump systems, including variable-speed equipment, energy efficiency ratings (SEER2/HSPF2), operating costs, and available rebates.
Strong understanding of high-efficiency gas furnaces, including AFUE ratings, two-stage and modulating operation, ECM blower technology, and proper airflow requirements.
Knowledgeable in hydronic boiler systems, including cast iron and high-efficiency condensing boilers, zoning strategies, indirect water heaters, circulators, and outdoor reset controls.
Experienced with steam boiler systems, including proper sizing, near-boiler piping considerations, venting requirements, and common replacement challenges.
Expert knowledge of tankless water heaters, including sizing, venting, recirculation options, installation requirements, maintenance, and efficiency benefits.
Understands oil, natural gas, propane, and electric heating applications and can explain the advantages and limitations of each fuel source.

System Design & Application

Performs accurate residential load calculations and properly sizes replacement HVAC equipment and standby generators.
Evaluates existing ductwork, piping, electrical service, gas piping capacity, venting, chimney systems, and combustion air requirements when designing replacement systems.
Identifies opportunities for indoor air quality products, humidification, dehumidification, zoning systems, smart thermostats, surge protection, and standby power solutions.
Understands refrigerant fundamentals, airflow principles, static pressure, system commissioning, and proper equipment matching.
Reviews installation conditions to identify potential code issues, electrical upgrades, panel capacity, gas service upgrades, chimney liner requirements, condensate management, permit requirements, and site access before the sale.

Rebates, Incentives & Financing

Maintains comprehensive knowledge of NYSERDA, NY Clean Heat, Con Edison, NYSEG, National Grid, Central Hudson, Orange & Rockland, and other utility company rebate and incentive programs.
Understands eligibility requirements, rebate calculations, decommissioning versus non-decommissioning incentives, and program documentation requirements.
Knowledgeable in all company-sponsored and third-party financing programs and consistently presents financing options to every prospect. Effectively explains monthly payment options, promotional financing offers, and the value of financing to improve affordability, increase close rates, and maximize customer satisfaction.
Accurately presents estimated customer out-of-pocket costs after applicable rebates and incentives.
Stays current on changes to incentive programs and proactively incorporates available rebates into every qualified sales proposal.

Sales & Customer Education

Translates complex technical concepts into clear, easy-to-understand recommendations that build customer confidence.
Conducts comprehensive home comfort, safety, and power outage preparedness assessments rather than simply replacing existing equipment.
Presents multiple system options (Good, Better, Best) while recommending the solution that best meets the customer's needs and budget.
Effectively addresses customer questions regarding comfort, reliability, maintenance, warranties, operating costs, backup power capabilities, and expected equipment life.
Collaborates closely with installation management to ensure all sold systems are technically accurate, code-compliant, complete, and installation-ready.
