We are currently seeking a Temporary Full-Time Compounding Lab Technician to join our team in Port Washington, NY. This role is expected to be needed for 6 months with the possibility of becoming permanent afterwards.
The ideal Compounding Lab Technician candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, can manage multitask and be able to have keen attention to detail.Â
Salary will range based on the level of experience from the candidate.
Primary Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities for a level 1 position include:
- Perform tasks, processes, and tests on products for production
- Duties may include chemical processing, grinding, drying, sieving, filling product bottles, weighing, aseptic processing, and laboratory cleaning
- Make and verify calculations, weight and volume measurements
- Use of laboratory equipment such as scales, centrifuges, autoclaves, sieves, vacuum-ovens, mixers, etc.
- Precisely follow written procedures
- Complete all required documentation accurately and timely
- Fill customer product orders and update inventory distributions
- Schedule daily workload for the laboratory and work with others to ensure all duties are completed
- Ensure all supplies needed for production activities are available
- Filtering, washing, and disinfecting
- Dispose of biohazard materials, chemicals, and hazardous wastes properly
- Store and remove products from freezers as appropriate
- Report discrepancies and problems to the supervisor in a timely fashion
- Conduct investigations of inventory and documentation as directed
- Use aseptic techniques to minimize contamination of products
- Set up, assemble, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment, supplies and machinery.
- Give input to creating or updating protocols, SOPs
- Perform SAP transactions
- Informs appropriate personnel of materials and equipment problems
- Attend departmental and company meetings
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Quality, Engineering, etc.
- Comply with company safety policies
- Assist with audits
- Understand and comply with all GMP compliance goals and objectives
- Perform yearly internal audit of physical inventory
- Other duties as assigned/all other production related activities
Education/Work Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent is preferred, no experience necessary.
Level 2 Position:
Meets the job requirements and competencies of the above and the following:
Education/Work Experience:
- College Degree in science, math, manufacturing, or related field preferred; or High School diploma and 2 years of relevant work experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Understand the "Big Picture" within your product area – the flow of materials, processes, and teams that must work together for on-time delivery
- Aseptically filter qualified, do adjustments, check piers calculations, and work independently
- Understands GMP regulations and complies with GMP goals and objectives
- Manage verbal communications with honesty, tact, and professionalism
- Demonstrate these abilities in difficult situationsÂ
- Monitor and manage supplies and equipment status to ensure an even workflowÂ
- Demonstrate an ability to work successfully with individuals from all departments and teamsÂ
- Able to effectively budget time, effort, and resources to accomplish multiple tasks and finish the most critical tasks firstÂ
- Identify need for corrective action, safety improvements, and potential cost savings. Suggest ways to improve documentation and processesÂ
Level 3 Position:
Meets the job requirements and competencies of Level I, II and the following:
Education/Work Experience
- College Degree in science field and at least 2 years of relative work experience preferred, or High School diploma and 4 years of relevant work experience.Â
Skills and Abilities:
- Be trained on the work list to make updates for results or remove finished work and able to release process orders, cross train for the autoclave and vial counts
- Has proven leadership, communication and interpersonal skills and can effectively direct the work of others
- Sets up and assists lower-level production workers in basic set-up and operation of machinery and equipment
- May provide work leadership including assigning work, monitoring progress, and resolving routine materials problems
- May be called upon to tend a variety of machines and equipment as needed for relief and assistance purposes
- Performs a wide variety of production activities requiring knowledge of a variety of related processes, operations, machinery, and equipment
- Successfully train employees learning new job functions – adapting to trainee's learning needs, demonstrating effective communication skills, earning positive trainee feedback, and resulting in proven improvements in technique and in the training itselfÂ
- Reports status of workflow and training results to Lead/Supervisor
- Manage team members in a small project or non-routine task
- Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills beyond that of normal documentation.Â
- Write clear and accurate SOPs, deviation investigation reports, or other project materials.Â
- Participate in group discussions and verbally present ideas or information to others in a clear, organized, and professional mannerÂ
- Lead by example and act as a role model for others in your team – demonstrate the ALK values.Â
Skills needed for any level:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive tasks
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to work around hazardous chemicals, allergenic antigens and medically qualified to use a respirator and hearing protection without restrictions
- Ability to follow detailed instructions effectively
- Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities to meet departmental goals
- Keen attention to detail
- Well-developed organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Excellent math aptitudeÂ
