Role Summary

The Engineering Design and Development Manager is responsible for all design engineering activities for the Americas Industrial Business. He/she approves the developed products as well as the technical standards, and steers the continuous improvement processes in the area of responsibility.

Main Tasks

Design & Development 

  • Ensure compliance with the technical standards for the locally developed products within a specific product group 
  • Approve the results of the customer negotiations regarding the specifications of the products to be designed, participate in the presentations of the developed products to the customer 
  • Approve/steer the development of the design concepts for the products (3D models, tolerance calculations, etc.) 
  • Navigate business units and build structures for the engineering group to work within. 

Project Management 

  • Approve all project management activities of the engineering projects within the specific product group 
  • Lead, assign and direct the project team members within the engineering group 
  • Approve/determine the budget for the projects and the assignments within the area of responsibility 
  • Approve the acquisition and allocation of the internal and external resources for the projects within the product group 

Leadership 

  • Plan, implement and control the budget in the area of responsibility; initiate and steer corrective actions in case of deviations 
  • Approve the acquisition and allocation of the internal and external resources in the area of responsibility 
  • Steer the activities of a team of engineers dedicated to a specific product group within the R&D/Engineering department for all phases (product development, SOP, serial production) 
  • Guide, motivate and develop the direct reports within the HR policy, manage the recruitment process for new employees 
  • Ensure that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed and directed 
  • Drive a culture of product innovation and collaboration
  • Represent the Industrial business unit within the MANN+HUMMEL engineering community locally and globally. 

Others 

  • Coordinate the engineering activities with the other M+H departments 
  • Initiate and monitor the innovation projects 
  • Interact with colleagues in the international engineering network in order to exchange new ideas and best in class practices 
  • Participate in fairs, tech shows and exhibitions to ensure that the M+H brand is promoted

Your Profile

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Master’s degree (MBA or Engineering) strongly preferred

Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive engineering experience in product design and development.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing, industrial, automotive, filtration, or OEM environment.
  • Experience managing cross-functional and global projects.
  • Track record of driving continuous improvement and innovation initiative
