SUMMARY                

The Materials Planner is responsible for ordering materials, supplies, tools, inventory

and any other tangible items the Company requires.  The Materials Planner works with

manufacturing and maintenance to ensure that all supplies and inventory are ordered to

meet production and shipping schedules and communicates directly with vendors.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Communicates timely and effectively with internal customer on status of orders and make appropriate changes to maintain system and reporting data integrity
  • Responsible for obtaining assigned products, materials & services with consideration to cost, terms, quality, source reliability & timing
  • Ensures timely flow of materials required to meet production and shipping schedules.  Expedites purchased materials as needed to ensure prompt delivery
  • Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items
  • Estimates values according to knowledge of market price
  • Prepares purchase orders for all required materials and services
  • Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action
  • Expedites delivery of goods to users
  • Works with Sourcing Specialist and Manager on materials that are required that do not have approved sources or when vendors are indicating a pricing change
  • Knowledgeable on company’s current quality & environmental standards

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university preferred; Prior experience in sourcing / procurement; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with ERP/MRP is desirable.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described in this section are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The majority of time will be spent in the office area; however, the employee will spend time in the production areas. 

 

The production area temperatures can fluctuate significantly based on the time of year.  The noise levels can be moderate to high.  The use of hearing protection and safety eyewear is required while on production floor.  The use of additional specific safety equipment may be required.  The noise level in the office is usually quiet. The noise level in production is usually moderate.

 

WORK AVAILABLITY AND TRAVEL

Must have the ability to work all shift schedules, periodic overtime and be available for periodic weekend work.
