As a Staff Mechanical Engineer in our Research & Development team, you will support multiple business units across the organization by leading the design and development of life-changing devices that directly impact patient outcomes. You will need to live within commuting distance to our Portage, Michigan office as this is a hybrid role and you will need to be in the office 3 days a week and can work from home on other days.

What You Will Do 

  • Design, develop, and verify components and subsystems for medical devices with minimal supervision. 
  • Translate user needs into design specifications and deliver system-level solutions. 
  • Lead prototyping and testing efforts to validate design performance. 
  • Identify and resolve complex design issues using data-driven analysis to improve processes and outcomes. 
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and mentor others in design control practices. 
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including Design History Files. 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive projects from concept through launch. 

What You Will Need 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, or related field). 
  • Minimum four years of relevant engineering experience. 
  • Experience designing mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies. 
  • Proficiency in engineering drawing creation and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). 
  • Experience in project management and financial analysis.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes. 
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality systems in a regulated environment. 
  • Previous experience in medical device or regulated industry.
