A Design Engineer at Jamestown Plastics is responsible for converting conceptual ideas into practical designs and overseeing the entire product development process from initial concept to final implementation.

SUMMARY

Responsible for the research and development of new products or product changes from concept to full production. Coordinates with other Design and Tooling personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:

Act as Project Manager for Customer projects assigned.

Communicates between the Customer, Sales, and Vendors to establish an understanding of Customer expectations and requirements and the ability to meet these requirements.

Designs Customer products, the associated processes and tooling that create Customer products.

Assists Production with initial development of the processes and configurations which will produce the Customer's product.

Defines the Design and Development Output risks.

Reviews the Design and Development Inputs

Implements design control.

Generates project schedule and plan.

Prepares and/or reviews engineering change requests, developing and overseeing preparation and implementation of all engineering change notices and document change control.

Reviews prototype samples and validating before sending to the customer for approval.

Performs Internal validation on the production tool.

Performs a post project review.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains a clean and safe work area and updates supplies as needed.

Complies with the Quality Policy and those Quality Management System and Quality Objective impacted by this position.

Complies with and assists the Company in enforcing the Company Rules, as described in the Employee Manual

Observes and follows company safety rules and regulations.

Other duties as assigned by the Company.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS/INTERACTIONS:

Reports to the Design and Tooling Manager. Coordinates activities with Customers, Production, Sales, Quality and Customer Service.

HOW THIS POSITION IMPACTS QUALITY OBJECTIVES:

Responsible for the management and design of products that meet or exceed Customer's expectations.

Is key to Customer satisfaction and the Company's success.

EDUCATION & TRAINING/KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

High School Graduate or GED

College or Technical training in design and the use of Computer Aided Design software

Knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices.

Experience in Computer Aided Manufacturing and Basic Machining a plus

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

The ability to communicate verbally with customers, management, and other coworkers is crucial.

Good reasoning ability, ability to think in abstract terms, and design aptitude are required to solve a wide range of business problems.

The ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common.

Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.

No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required.

WORKING ENVIROMENT

The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer.
