Hyster-Yale Materials Handling Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Test Technician I-III based at our Counterbalance Development Center in  Portland, Oregon.  Â
Level placement is based on experience, technical expertise, and scope of responsibility Â
Â
What you will do: Â
Level I
Master of Automotive/Industrial repair, diagnostics and associated technology
Carry out established test procedures independently and report results. Â
Fabricate test fixtures/stands, and prototype parts without guidance per design specs. Â
Maintain logs, communicate test outcomes, and assist with data acquisition setup and troubleshoot, as necessary.  Â
Complete assigned project tasks and meet deadlines without supervision. Â
Level II
Master of Automotive/Industrial repair, diagnostics and associated technology
Design and build test fixtures, prototype parts and test stands Â
Analyze and interpret test results and prepare summary reports. Â
Recommend actions based on technical findings and test data. Â
Participate in cross-functional problem solving and design reviews. Â
Support test equipment selection, calibration, setup, diagnostics, and teardown. Â
Guide and mentor junior technicians and assist in test planning and project prioritization. Â
Level III
Master of Automotive/Industrial repair, diagnostics and associated technology
Plan, schedule, and coordinate comprehensive test programs in alignment with project goals. Â
Lead test execution, analyze data, and report results across multiple development initiatives. Â
Lead and coordinate test equipment selection, calibration, setup, diagnostics, and teardown. Â
Develop, refine, and improve test procedures, fixtures, equipment, and shop processes for vehicle development. Â
Serve as a technical liaison and provide advanced consultation and training to engineers, technicians, and external partners. Â
Drive improvements in testing efficiency, quality, engineering standards, and mentor technical staff. Â

What you will need: Â
Level I
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in a relevant field preferred or equivalent certifications. Â
Experience: 5+ years of relevant mechanical or testing experience. Â
 Â
Level II Â
Education: Associate degree in a relevant field required; additional accredited certifications preferred. Â
Experience: 7+ years of relevant experience. Â
 Â
Level III
Education: Associate degree in a relevant field required; additional accredited certifications strongly preferred. Â
Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience. Â
 Â
Skills, Experience & Abilities       Â
Welding, machining, and fabrication experience. Â
Strong mechanical aptitude with vehicle, lift truck, or heavy equipment repair. Â
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications. Â
Experience with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation. Â
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel preferred reporting and data analysis). Â
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerances, and quality standards. Â
Ability to safely operate lift trucks and related equipment. Â
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Â
Preferred:  Â
Experience with CAN systems, sensors, and vehicle communication protocols. Â
Advanced troubleshooting of DC/AC electrical systems. Â
Experience leading tests, mentoring others, or coordinating project activities.  Â
