POSITION OVERVIEW
The IT Systems Analyst / Engineer is responsible for the technical deployment, integration, and ongoing operation of ZAVTEK's RTPM platform at customer sites and in the cloud. This is a hands-on engineering role that bridges the gap between field-deployed monitoring hardware and the cloud-based data platform — configuring on-site collection agents, validating device communications, ensuring data pipeline integrity, and supporting the customer portal environment. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable running SNMP polls on a data center floor and troubleshooting a cloud-side ingestion failure from a browser, and understands how UPS systems, battery plants, and power distribution equipment communicate on a network.
KEY DETAILS
Reports To: Technical Product Manager
Department: RTPM
Location: Hybrid — Zavtek Portland office with regular customer site deployments
Employment Type: Full-Time
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
On-Site Device Integration & Commissioning
- Deploy and configure on-site data collection agents (hardware or software) at customer facilities.
- Configure SNMP v2c/v3 polling, Modbus TCP/RTU connections, and REST API integrations for UPS, battery monitoring systems, PDUs, and STS units across major manufacturers (Eaton, Schneider Electric/APC, Vertiv, Powervar, PDI, and others).
- Install, configure, andvalidatecommunications cards and network management modules on critical power devices as needed.
- Perform site surveys to assess network topology, device reachability, and data collection feasibility prior to RTPM enrollment.
- Document all site configurations, IP addressing, MIB mappings, and polling parameters in a standardized format.
Cloud Platform Operations & Data Pipeline Management
- Monitor andmaintainthe RTPM cloud platform, including ingestion pipelines, data normalization processes, and alert routing.
- Investigate and resolve data quality issues — missing polls, stale readings, protocol mismatches, or MIB discrepancies.
- Support platform deployments, updates, and configuration changes in coordination with the TPM and development partners.
- Maintain system uptime and reliability in alignment with ZAVTEK's managed service SLAs.
- Implement and manage network security controls at the collection layer — TLS tunnels, SNMPv3 encryption, read-only access enforcement.
Customer Portal & Reporting Support
- Provision and configure customer accounts in the RTPM monitoring portal;validatethat dashboards displayaccurate, current data.
- Support configuration of automated reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly roll-ups) and custom alert thresholds per customer requirements.
- Assistwith customer-facing troubleshooting and provide technical escalation support for account managers.
- Document andmaintainSOPs for onboarding, configuration, and support workflows.
Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
- Function as a technical escalation resource for field techniciansencounteringdevice connectivity or monitoring issues.
- Identifyrecurring integration challenges across manufacturers and propose standardized solutions or retrofit kits.
- Contribute to testing and validation of new device integrations before general availability.
- Maintain and update the RTPM device compatibility matrix — tracking what data is available from each manufacturer and model.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in IT systems administration, network engineering, or a technical field services role.
- Hands-on experience with SNMP — configuring polling, reading MIB files, and handling SNMP traps. SNMPv3 with encryption strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Modbus TCP and/or RTU serial communication for industrial or power devices.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals — TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, and network segmentation as it relates to device visibility.
- Understanding of critical power infrastructure: UPS systems, battery monitoring, power distribution units, or static transfer switches — ability to read equipment documentation and interpret communications specifications.
- Experience with or exposure to managed services delivery — understanding of multi-customer environments, SLA obligations, and remote monitoring operations.
- Strong documentation skills — ability to produce clear site configuration records, integration guides, and support procedures.
- Associate's orBachelor's degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field; equivalent field experience considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Direct experience with UPS or critical power equipment from Eaton, Schneider Electric/APC, Vertiv, or Powervar — including SNMP card configuration.
- Familiarity with monitoring platforms such as PRTG, SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix, or similar tools.
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation of polling, data parsing, or integration tasks.
- Background in data center operations, facilities management, or critical infrastructure support.
- Relevant certifications: CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or manufacturer-specific certifications (Eaton, Schneider, Vertiv).
- Familiarity with RFC 1628 (UPS MIB) and how OID trees are structured for power device monitoring.
