This role leads the production team in daily activities, including packaging, weighing, grinding, labeling, pallet preparation, and operation of production equipment. Maintains the production floor in a safe, clean, and orderly manner. Supports team morale, training & industry knowledge, confidence, and efficiency. Problem solves unexpected issues on the production floor. Promotes Portland Coffee Roaster’s mission, vision, and values with assigned team members. This role is part of our bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local 162. Wages, benefits, and protections are collectively negotiated by the union. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following are examples of the primary duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Role models PCR Communication Standards, Core Values, and departmental guidelines & SOP’s • Organizes daily workflows, assigns tasks, tracks progress, and flags exceptions to Production Supervisor • Provides thorough onboarding/training for new production employees and ongoing support and guidance to tenured employees to ensure employee retention and success. • Performs quality control checks on packaging, labeling, weights, and appearance to ensure accuracy and completion. • Ensures compliance with food safety and Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards at all times; maintains SQF records, including sanitation and equipment checklists • Supports movement & need of materials, supplies, and finished goods • Operates all equipment (e.g., weigh-and-fill, grinders, scales, label printers); performs and trains basic cleaning and maintenance • Keeps staging area tidy and ensures products are properly labeled, secure and ready for transfer Additional Responsibilities include the following. • Supports team workflow and provides coverage for other team members when needed. • Alerts Production Supervisor of equipment malfunctions, material shortages, or safety concerns. • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or Production Manager. QualificationsEDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. REQUIRED & PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Wage range is dependent on previous experience in a Leadership or Supervisory capacity. Previous production or food manufacturing experience is preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS: • Forklift Certificate REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: • Trustworthy & Dependable (attendance, timeliness, responsive) • Approachable Team Player/Department SME (subject matter expert) • Able to give direction and supervision to production team • Effective communication both verbal and written; adherence to PCR Communication Standards • Functional/technical and SOP Resource understanding (job knowledge, aptitude, and skills) • Receptive to feedback/self-aware (coachable, open to hearing both positive and constructive feedback) • Adaptable to change (responsive and proactive to embrace any change, flexible to adjust to situation and business needs) • Attention to Detail (keen awareness and commitment to reducing errors or oversight) • Time Management/Planning (ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks and activities effectively to make the most of the available time) • Ability to follow rules, policies, and procedures TECHNICAL SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with computers, mobile devices, and productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and Rootstock ERP/Salesforce. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 150 pounds assisted. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time. Occasionally required to climb ladders, sit, stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, or crawl. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is high.
