The Safety Specialist assists in providing leadership in the implementation of the company’s efforts to plan, implement and supervise the onsite corporate safety, security and emergency response program, which shall also include all firefighting activities and ensure compliance with the company philosophy and the latest regulations. 

Tasks & Responsibilities: 

  • Know, understand, and follow all Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of SSE management systems, including work processes, safety plans, and standards & procedures.
  • Coach teams and individuals on SSE related tasks and activities.
  • Participate in Root Cause Investigations (RCIs) to achieve plant Health & Safety goals, eliminate injuries, and reduce exposures 
  • Evaluate Behavioral Based data and coach team to habit strength by assisting in the managing and auditing of the Safe Behavior Process including analysis of the Behavior Based Performance processes.
  • Participate in and provides data for SSE audits/assessments.
  • Assist in maintaining SSE recordkeeping systems, Health Assessment Planning Tool & Qualitative Exposure Assessment databases.
  • Assist in maintaining Industrial Hygiene (IH) programs and conducts necessary monitoring per IH Plans. 
  • Participate in creating and delivery of SSE Training.
  • Assist in organizing and overseeing the Site & Facility Security Plan.
  • Assess process and non-process related risks (including natural disasters).
  • Make recommendations in developing and implementing the facility-wide emergency management plan.
  • Assess emergency response equipment needs and organizes emergency response teams based on risk assessments.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, & training the emergency response team
  • Initiate emergency plans and provides leadership in response to on-site emergencies.
  • Perform other duties assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer Preferred or Completed OSHA 510/511
  • ASP/CSP Preferred
  • Must be able to assume role of Incident Commander at an emergency incident
  • Must complete firefighter training up to the level of Fire Brigade Leader
  • Must be able to walk long distances and stand and work for more than 2 hours in tough environmental conditions (high temperature, high humidity, noise, & dust), and withstand heights of up to 500 feet
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel & Power Point)
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to travel occasionally
  • Must be able to enter into dangerous environment to execute lifesaving rescue and combat fire or hazardous situation, having been provided proper equipment and training
  • Must have experience with designing, implementing, & maintaining Site Safety & Security plans
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the site
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card
