Position Summary: As a Mental Health Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals living with mental health challenges in residential environments. Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, implementing individualized care plans, and fostering a safe, trauma-informed environment. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to promote recovery, independence, and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support residents with self-care, social skills, and community integration.
  • Implement and monitor treatment plans as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions and assist with activities of daily living.
  • Administer medications and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
  • Respond to crisis situations using de-escalation-based intervention techniques.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record system.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development.

Qualifications

Education:

Mental Health Aide I

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Compensation: Base Pay $21.90/hr. to $22.56/hr. DOE

Mental Health Aide II

  • Must meet the requirements and demonstrate the competencies to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA).
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in an approved behavioral science field from an accredited college or university or three years of mental health work experience.
  • Required: Certification must be current and in compliance with MHACBO.

Compensation: Base Pay $24.81/hr. to $25.84/hr. DOE

Experience:

  • Experience in a residential mental health setting and providing skills training services is preferred but not required.

Specialized Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Trauma Informed Care (TIC), Motivational Interviewing, and Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Basic understanding of recovery models, illness management, and strength-based philosophies.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word & Excel).

Other:

  • CPR Certification (training provided post-hire).

What is Per Diem Staffing?

Per diem staff work on an as-needed basis to provide coverage when regular staff are unavailable or when program needs increase. This flexible role allows you to contribute meaningfully to client care within your assigned pod.

  • Allowance: Per diem staff receive an additional $2.00 per hour on top of base pay, in lieu of benefits.

  • Requirement: Per diem staff must work a minimum of 12 shifts per quarter.

  • Shift Structures: Per diem staff may be scheduled for any of the following shifts:

    • Day Shift: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

    • Swing Shift: 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

    • Overnight Shift: 11:00 pm – 7:30 am

    • Note: There may be small variations in shift times depending on the site.

Where You’ll Be Working

Cascadia’s residential services are organized into six distinct pods, each comprised of multiple programs:

  • Secure Residential
  • Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB) – may require driving depending on site assignment
  • Supportive Housing
  • Multnomah County Licensed Residential
  • Clackamas County Licensed Residential
  • Respite

Based on your responses, you will be routed for consideration to a site within one of Cascadia’s six residential housing pods. As a per diem employee, you will be assigned to a single pod and may work across multiple programs within that pod to provide coverage and support where needed.
