Service Credit Union is seeking a General Accountant who will perform various degrees of accounting related administrative tasks; while also managing primary job-related responsibilities and serving as a backup to other team members.

Pay:Ā Starting at $23.67 per hour. Flexible based on experience.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm

Work location: Portsmouth, NH

The Day to Day:

  • Perform the accounts payable function for Service CU. These responsibilities include ensuring proper approvals, payments and authorizations of vendors are on file.
  • Perform the CUSO accounts payable process, ensuring proper approvals are obtained and the correct CUSO accounts are used.
  • Daily F&T code review for proper inclusion within income related accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare journal entries to assigned accounts as deemed necessary.
  • Input Branch and ATM/ITM cash orders.
  • Maintain W9 records for vendors.
  • Prepare IRS Form 1099-MISC tax reporting via the Accounts Payable system.
  • Provide support for the CUSO related 1099 vendors and all applicable mailings on an annual basis.
  • Assists in the proper expense allocation of all overseas related accounts payable entries.
  • Scans checks, invoices and all related documentation into archive system.
  • Monitors various Service CU accounts for activity and clears entries as needed.
  • Reviews and verifies all Treasury General Account Deposit Confirmations and Adjustments
  • Approves and transmits outgoing bank wires, ensuring compliance with Service CU policy.
  • Reviews and posts incoming bank wires.
  • Performs all fixed asset and prepaid expense input into prologue, along with corresponding reconciliations.
  • Processes all Corporate Visa accounting entries and applicable expense allocation.
  • Performs all Service CU cashier check processing activity entries.
  • Provides accounting support, analysis and research on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities, professional publications, personal networks and professional organizations.
  • Answers telephones and assume responsibilities generated by calls.
  • Assists with other department responsibilities as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding credit union policies and procedures, member financial data, personal information, and work-related events.
  • Provide quality support and maintain a professional relationship with peers, management, other staff, and members through cooperation, mutual trust and respect.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree required. Continuing college level education preferred.
  • Practical Accounting and financial institution experience preferred.
  • Must possess critical thinking skills and have the ability to articulate clearly to co-workers and management.
  • Must be able to balance multiple tasks and workloads.
  • Possess the ability to work independently or within a team environment as the job entails.
  • Meet tight deadlines (especially during the month end close process) and be flexible to work as needed to get tasks accomplished.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Detail oriented with proven communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
