Job Description

Position Summary

The Associate Director leads day-to-day residential operations for the Residential Operations Center (ROC) and serves as the primary liaison between Residential Life and Facilities Operations. This role ensures smooth service delivery for key control, student moves, inspection support, inventory, and residential transitions, while supervising the Assistant Director of Residential Operations, one union staff member, and student employees, with a strong focus on accuracy, safety, responsiveness, and customer service. 

This position requires living on campus and serves as a Campus Security Authority for Clery reporting and rotating on-call Residential Facilities Administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student employees in accordance with Student Employment guidelines, ensuring consistent coverage, documented training, and timely payroll.

  • Assign and delegate ROC tasks, manage daily workflow, and ensure consistent front-line service.

  • Develop and maintain student schedules, support student discipline processes as needed, and oversee students on Residential Life projects.

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and submit monthly operational reports that highlight service volume, recurring issues, and process improvements.

  • Support the planning and execution of break housing cycles (winter, spring, and summer), including application processes, eligibility criteria, assignment workflows, staffing coordination, and student communications.

  • Review post-break outcomes with the Assistant Director, including operational lessons learned, themes in student feedback, and process improvements for the next cycle.

  • Serve as liaison to Facilities Operations to coordinate residential readiness, maintenance priorities, and communication loops during peak periods.

  • Support a clear intake and escalation process for residential issues so requests are routed, tracked, and resolved efficiently.

  • Oversee daily key operations, including lockouts, lost keys, key returns, charging, replacement, and documentation. Prepare keys for check-in, room changes, and summer operations; supervise key audits and reconciliation processes.

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute apartment draw; coordinate check-in and check-out efforts, including room changes and student moves. Direct inventory efforts in apartments and manage logistics that support smooth transitions.

  • Refer apartment adjudication to the Director of Community Expectations and Housing Assignment, as appropriate.

  • Perform yearly fire safety inspections and track follow-up items to closure in coordination with campus partners.

  • Prepare houses for summer key disbursement and collection; support summer housing operations; supervise summer student employees.

  • Mentor and serve as a resource for six House Advisors, assist in professional staff training on operational processes, customer service standards, and key control expectations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Four years of facilities management or transferable operations experience.

  • One year of supervisory experience. 

  • Valid Driver’s License for at least 2 years. 

  • Strong computer skills, including Word and Excel, plus comfort with email and web-based systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and professional phone manner.

  • Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines and multiple competing priorities with high accuracy and accountability.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in higher education residential operations, especially key control, moves, inventories, and peak-period planning.

  • Experience supervising union staff and student employees.

  • Familiarity with service metrics and continuous improvement practices.

Compensation

The compensation for this position is $62,353.20-$75,500 per year.
