Summary:

Assumes responsibility, under supervision of Operating Room Leadership/Anesthesiologist and Registered Nurse, for the set-up and maintenance of anesthesia equipment and monitors supplies.  Assists anesthesiologist in delivery of anesthetic care for a specific group of neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients in accordance with Surgical Services and Anesthesia Department’s established policies and procedures. 

 Essential Responsibilities 

  1. Assumes responsibility to ensure proper functioning of all equipment by using appropriate quality control procedures on a routine basis. 
  1. Works collaboratively as a team member when providing patient care to promote positive patient outcomes and to maintain continuity of patient care through clear communication and professional working relationships including pertinent oral and/or written report to oncoming relief/ancillary personnel. 
  1. Assists in placement of invasive monitoring lines, initiation of regional anesthesia and other anesthetic procedures as assigned. 
  1. Sets up all pressure transducers and ensures proper calibration of transducers and monitors. 
  1. Follows established policies for all safety and infection control practices and monitors the environment and equipment to ensure cleaning standards are maintained. 
  1. Remains available and accessible when on duty or on-call 
  1. Demonstrates knowledge of current trends and practices in health care field as evidence by attending in services for equipment, supplies and procedures. 
  1. Utilizes material, equipment, and time in a safe, therapeutic and cost-effective manner. 
  2. Responds to all supervisors’ requests for information and assists in a timely and courteous manner. 

Education and Experience Requirements:  

Requires high school diploma or equivalent. 

1 year experience as an Anesthesia Technician or 2 years’ experience as an Operating Room Patient Care Technician or equivalent experience 

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements: 

Basic Life Saving (AHA or ARC) 

Preferred: Anesthesia Technician certification from a National or State recognized   professional organization which requires an accrediting exam. 

Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant and/or EKG Certification
