What isĀ aĀ Procurement Supervisor?Ā 

The Procurement Supervisor leads and oversees the Buyers within the Purchasing Department, ensuring the efficient acquisition of materials and services whileĀ maintainingĀ optimalĀ inventory investment and service levels. Key responsibilities include managing stock inventory levels, fostering collaborative relationships, and supporting engagement across internal and external stakeholder groups, including Electric and Gas Operations, Engineering, Storerooms, and third-party suppliers.Ā 

This position provides strategic direction and guidance for procurement and inventory management activities to ensure operational requirements are met in a cost-effective and efficient manner. The Procurement SupervisorĀ is responsible forĀ driving continuous improvement initiatives, supporting supplier performance, and aligning purchasing strategies with organizationalĀ objectivesĀ to maximize value andĀ maintainĀ supply chain reliability.Ā 

What doesĀ aĀ Procurement SupervisorĀ do?Ā 

  • Leads, develops, and managesĀ the Buyer team, including recruiting, onboarding, training, coaching, mentoring, and conducting performance evaluations to support employee growth and departmental success.Ā 

  • EstablishesĀ andĀ maintainsĀ consistent expectations, processes, and operating standards for Buyers, ensuring effective inventory optimization, adherence to work schedules and workplace requirements, operational consistency, andĀ high levelsĀ of individual and team performance.Ā 

  • ServesĀ as the primary backup to the Manager of Procurement and Stores, supporting the execution of procurement, inventory, supplier management, and operational initiatives while ensuring business continuity and service reliability.Ā 

  • CollaboratesĀ with other departments such as finance, legal, operations, and storerooms to ensure alignment of procurement activities with the broader organizational goals andĀ objectives.Ā 

  • OverseesĀ the purchasing process, includingĀ maintainingĀ optimalĀ inventory levels and effective engagement with Operations, Engineering, and Stores Departments.Ā 

  • MonitorsĀ and tracksĀ procurement metrics, such as cost savings, supplier performance, and order fill rates. Prepare and present monthly KPI reports and dashboards to communicate procurement performance.Ā 

  • BuildsĀ and maintainsĀ strong relationships with suppliers and service providers. The Procurement Supervisor fosters positive relationships with key suppliers to enhance collaboration, negotiate favorable terms, and address any issues that may arise.Ā 

  • SeeksĀ a robust, diverse, and sustainable pool of vendors and contractors to support company operations.Ā 

  • Provide support during emergencies or storms by preparing necessary checklists and procuring essential supplies such as lodging, meals, water, dry ice, and fuels.Ā 

  • RepresentsĀ the company in the Fortis Supply Chain Group andĀ participatesĀ in relevant industry groups and/or supply chain associations.Ā 

  • ManagesĀ the company's Corporate Credit Card (PCard) program, including conducting monthly audits and generating periodic reports.Ā 

  • DevelopsĀ program and system tools to improve work processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall productivity within the department.Ā 

  • ReviewsĀ andĀ approvesĀ outstanding vouchers to ensure timely and accurate payments.Ā 

  • ProvidesĀ assistanceĀ with storeroom administration tasks when required.Ā 

  • Ensures thatĀ theĀ Purchasing manuals and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to align with changing needs, enhance efficiency, and ensure compliance.Ā 

  • Supports emergency storm restoration effortsĀ

What does it take to beĀ aĀ Procurement Supervisor?Ā Ā 

Required:Ā 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Finance, Accounting, or other relevant discipline. In lieu of aĀ bachelor’s degree, anĀ associate’s degreeĀ withĀ 3+Ā years ofĀ Supply Chain ManagementĀ experience.  Equivalent of education and experience may be consideredĀ 

  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple activities with attention to detailĀ 

  • Ability to read and understand Operation Work Plans and Engineering SpecificationsĀ 

  • Exceptional analytical capability as well as excellent spreadsheet skillsĀ 

  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skillsĀ 

  • Ability to analyze complex data, make informed decisions, and solve procurement-related challenges.Ā 

  • Analytical approach with excellent negotiating skills to secure the best prices according to market conditions and budget constraintsĀ 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of diverse professionalsĀ 

  • Demonstrated ethical behavior and integrity in dealing with sensitive information, financial matters, and supplier relationshipsĀ 

  • Valid driver’s licenseĀ 

Preferred:Ā 

  • Bachelor’s orĀ Master’sĀ degree (inĀ aforementioned fields)Ā 

  • 10+ years of related experienceĀ 

  • PreviousĀ personnel management experienceĀ 

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity (CPSD), or Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) can beĀ advantageousĀ
