Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Performance this individual will assist in the education and teaching of Vassar’s strength and conditioning programs for 25 varsity sports and four varsity club teams. Weekend, holiday, early morning and/or late evening hours are required.This is a benefit-eligible, ten-month position which offers a broad-based experience in strength & conditioning at a Division III institution. Employment is contingent upon successful result of a background search.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Performance with all aspects of a competitive and inclusive NCAA  Division III strength and conditioning program for approximately 600 student-athletes:

  • Serve as an educator for student-athletes, responsible for the development and implementation of instructional curricula focused on physical development, injury prevention, and athletic performance. 

  • Design and teach strength training and conditioning programs for assigned sports.

  • Teach student-athletes technical proficiency and safety in all strength and conditioning programming.

  • Collaborate with the sports medicine staff to develop and implement injury prevention and injury rehabilitation programs for assigned student-athletes.

  • Conduct testing to assess student-athlete performance and improvement.

  • Assist with the development, implementation, and utilization of an online methodology for tracking student-athlete sports performance activities, including the use of pre-practice readiness questionnaires.

  • Maintain and upkeep equipment within the varsity weight room. 

  • Collaborate with head coaches to create comprehensive off-season conditioning programs. 

  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of social media and a webpage for Vassar College strength & conditioning.

  • Engage in professional development activities to stay current with best practices, new research and changing guidelines.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Current NSCA, CSCS or CSCCA, SCCC certification.

  • Knowledge and compliance with NCAA and league rules and regulations.

  • Certification in CPR, AED and First Aid is necessary but can be obtained through Vassar College as needed.  

  • Valid driver’s license for at least 2 years.

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Master’s degree in an exercise science or other related field and two or more years of relevant experience.  

  • The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills as well as a demonstrated commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy. 

Compensation

The compensation for this position is $41,000 per year.
