Brian Cox Mechanical, Inc. (BCM), an industry leading HVAC contractor headquartered in Poway California, has an opening for a Pipefitter Welder.


Position Summary

The Pipefitter/Welder/Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication, welding, installation, modification, and repair of commercial and industrial HVAC piping systems and related mechanical equipment.  This skilled trade position requires expertise in fabricating and welding. This position will work closely with other trades to integrate piping systems into commercial, and industrial projects. 

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Fabricate and weld carbon steel pipe, stainless steel process pipe, and structural steel components. 
  • Read interpret blueprints, drawings, and fabrication specifications. 
  • Perform shop fabrication, fitting, and welding according to project requirements. 
  • Measure, cut, grind, and prepare materials for fabrication.
  • Maintain high-quality workmanship and ensure all welds meet company and project standards.
  • Assembling and installing pipe systems, pipe supports, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. 
  • Installs pipe for stream, hot water, heating, cooling, lubrication, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems. 
  • Assembles materials at jobsite, select type and size of pipes. Cuts, thread, and hammers pipes according to pipe system speculations. 
  • Operate fabrication and field equipment, including welding machines, plasma cutters, ironworkers, and pipe threading equipment.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with shop and field personnel to meet production schedules and project deadlines.

Heavy Lifting: Frequently lift and carry materials, tools, and pipes weighing up to 50–75 lbs. 


Standing & Walking: Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving around job sites. 


Climbing & Balancing: Work on ladders, scaffolds, or elevated platforms to install piping systems. 


Stooping & Kneeling: Frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling in confined spaces. 


Manual Dexterity: Use of hands and arms for cutting threading, welding, and assembling pipes. 


Visual & Hearing Requirements: Ability to read blueprints, measure accurately, and detect sounds of leaks or machinery. 


Environmental Conditions: Exposure to varying temperatures, dust, noise, and sometimes hazardous materials 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Pipefitter/Welder experience required 2 years
  • Prior shop fabrication experience required or strongly preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Able to pass a pre-employment health, drug, and background check
