Lead Assembly Technician

Job Summary

The Assembly Lead is responsible for overseeing the assembly team, ensuring that parts are fabricated and assembled accurately and efficiently according to blueprints and drawings. This role involves hands-on fabrication, assembly, and leadership responsibilities, including training new team members and leading on-site efforts in the absence of management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in assembly work, blueprint reading, robotics, and team leadership.

The Assembly Lead plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational availability of a diverse range of manufacturing equipment. Their technical skills are essential in installing, building, and evaluating mechanical and electrical systems, automation, and robotics.

The Assembly Lead reports to the Assembly team manager.

This is a full-time position Monday-Thursday 6am – 4:30pm.

Pay range $22 - $36 / hour.

 

Key Responsibilities

Assembly & Fabrication

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to accurately fabricate and assemble parts.
  • Perform hands-on assembly, using tools and equipment to meet product specifications and quality standards.
  • Ensure all assemblies meet safety, quality, and production standards.

Leadership & Team Support

  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to new and existing team members, fostering skill development and efficiency.
  • Oversee the assembly team during manager absences, coordinating tasks and ensuring production goals are met.
  • Conduct quality checks on team members' work to ensure adherence to standards, and provide constructive feedback.

On-Site Leadership

  • Act as the lead on-site representative when managers are offsite, maintaining smooth operations and communication with upper management as needed.
  • Coordinate assembly efforts and manage on-site challenges, including troubleshooting issues and reassigning tasks for optimal workflow.
  • Ensure that all safety and compliance protocols are followed by team members on-site.
  • Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, and other team members to maintain project progress.
  • Update electrical drawings to reflect as-built conditions and system modifications.
  • Facilitate team meetings to support on-time builds and collaborative problem-solving.

Process Improvement

  • Identify and suggest process improvements to enhance assembly efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
  • Collaborate with managers to implement new tools, techniques, or procedures to optimize workflow.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in assembly, manufacturing, or a related field (preferred).
  • Two- or four-year degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Controls & Robotics, or equivalent education/experience.

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in assembly or manufacturing roles, preferably in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

Skills

  • Excellent hands-on assembly and fabrication skills, with an eye for detail. Systems include pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, power distribution, vision, low-voltage controls, servo systems, and VFDs.
  • Ability to train and guide team members effectively, fostering a positive and productive team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate tasks and manage on-site challenges.
  • Good communication skills for interfacing with team members and management.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP systems are a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work on assembly lines or at fabrication stations.
  • Ability to lift and handle parts and tools weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with potential exposure to noise, dust, and equipment.
