Overview

AprilAire is looking to hire a driven and energetic Operations Finance Manager to be the business partner for the Operations Leadership team.

 

This highly visible role combines Cost Accounting and FP&A responsibilities, ensuring accurate financial statements while also driving forecasting, budgeting, and strategic analysis. The Ops Finance Manager will be intimately involved with the manufacturing facilities, providing financial rigor, identifying cost-out opportunities, and serving as a strategic partner for operations.

 

Additionally, this position will provide oversight for the cycle counting process, fixed asset allocation and updating/maintaining standard costs.  The position will be based in our Manufacturing facility in Poynette WI with one day a week at our Madison WI manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of plant financial reporting, business partner to the Operations Leadership team and liaison between operations and other departments within AprilAire
  • Complete month-end cost of goods sold entries; review system provided data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review inventory purchase transactions for the month identifying actual costs vs standard (e.g., purchase price variances) and separating the variances by main category.
  • Responsibility for the inventory accuracy process, cycle counting, inventory reconciliation and including up to managing the inventory team.
  • Complete summaries of cost of goods sold by product line
  • Reconcile month-end inventory balances between system provided data and general ledger.
  • Proactively identify cost out opportunities and drive for productivity to offset inflation
  • Complete product line income statements and margin reports
  • Review large variances throughout month and lead to corrective action solutions
  • Review general ledger transactions weekly and investigate unusual transactions
  • Complete line-item comparison of actual costs to budget & current forecast.
  • Provide plants with daily labor reports
  • Provide plants with weekly overhead spending
  • Prepare and present monthly operations reviews with variance understanding and corrective action recommendations
  • Complete periodic or ad-hoc cost analysis.
  • Complete the annual budget and periodic forecast updates.
  • Update standard inventory costs & product pricing in the system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA and/or CPA a plus
  • 5+ years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing environment
  • Management and leadership experience a plus
  • Understanding of cost accounting standards around BOM’s, standard costing, reserves and applying accounting principles, theories and concepts to financial transactions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with global partners
  • Ability to motivate and lead by example thus showing the ability to organize, support and clearly communicate with accounting and non-accounting professionals
  • Mapics experience preferred, but not required.
