POSITION SPECIFICS

Title: RN - Multispecialty - Acute Care & Birth & Women's Care

FTE: 0.9 FTE (72 hours per 2-week pay period)

Schedule: Three (3) 12- hour shifts every week; days or nights

Holiday Rotation: Every third holiday

Weekend Rotation: Every third, rotation

On Call Requirements: One 12- hour weekend shift every 3rd week

POSITION SUMMARY

The Multispecialty Nurse functions as a nurse generalist with two designated primary units, Birth and Women's Care and Acute Care, delivering high‑quality care while remaining skilled to support additional departments. This role requires a high degree of flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to rapidly adapt to varying patient acuity levels, assignments, workflows, and care environments. The Multispecialty Nurse collaborates closely with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care across the patient continuum and consistently practices in accordance with professional nursing standards, scope of practice, and applicable unit‑based and organizational policies and procedures.

POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Nursing Practice (All Settings)

  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to provide individualized, patient-centered care.

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, including admission, ongoing reassessment, and documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Develop, implement, and update patient plans of care based on assessment and diagnosis, with reviews at least every 24 hours.

  • Administer medications safely, including IV therapy, and monitors for effectiveness and adverse reactions.

  • Review, verify, and implement provider orders in a timely manner.

  • Monitor, document, and communicate changes in patient condition, notifying providers as appropriate.

  • Initiate and support patient and family education, including discharge planning.

  • Respond to life-threatening situations in accordance with established standards and protocols.

  • Perform or assist with procedures based on competency and policy.

  • Provide bedside shift report and ensures safe patient handoffs, including transfers when needed.

  • Collaborate with and delegate to interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care.

  • Maintain clinical competencies and participate in ongoing education and training.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and attends required meetings.

Acute Care Responsibilities

  • Provide care for medical-surgical patients with varying levels of acuity.

  • Safely manages multiple patients while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

  • Apply and monitor clinical equipment as appropriate to patient needs.

  • Recognize and respond to acute changes in patient condition and escalate care as needed.

Birth & Women’s Care Responsibilities

  • Provide triage and assessment for obstetric outpatients, including review of prenatal history.

  • Initiate, interpret, and document fetal monitoring in accordance with established guidelines.

  • Perform vaginal examinations and monitor labor progression, communicating updates using SBAR.

  • Support laboring patients and families, including pain management preferences.

  • Prepare for and assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries (scheduled and emergent).

  • Assist with obstetric procedures and supports anesthesia placement as needed.

  • Provide care for labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn patients, including those requiring additional support (e.g., IV therapy, oxygen).

  • Provide lactation support and education.

  • Respond to obstetric and neonatal emergencies in accordance with established protocols.

  • Provide recovery care for patients following gynecological procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked patient care environment.

  • May serve as a preceptor to support onboarding and development of staff.

  • Protect and advocate patient rights in all care settings.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Required: Associate Degree in Nursing

  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Experience:

  • Required: 3-5 Years of nursing experience

  • Preferred: 5+ years of nursing experience

Licenses and Registrations:

  • Required:  Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse license or Multistate Nurse License

  • Preferred:   None

Certification(s):

Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): 3 months from hire

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): 6 months from hire

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): 1 year from hire

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): 1 year from hire

  • Sugar & Safe Care, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, Emotional Support (STABLE): 1 year from hire
