Behavior Mentor with Children’s Advocate-  About the contractual role 

Children’s Advocate provides a safe, supportive, and nurturing therapeutic environment. The program serves women, man and children who are referred from varies entities. Typically, the clients enter the program with a history of abuse, neglect, trauma, substance abuse, mental illness, behavioral matters and violence. 

What You’ll Do

As a Behavior Support Mentor, you’ll provide client therapeutic mentoring assistance by working with the clients on various areas of needs in a remote setting. You'll serve as a positive role model and mentor for clients while providing encouragement, guidance, and resources to the clients. This position provides consistent interactive supervision of clients to ensure the safety, health and welfare of staff and the population of clients we serve at all times. Establishing a positive rapport and interfaces with parents/legal guardian, court/welfare staff, probation officers and case workers. Ensuring the highest standards are maintained to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct and to ensure the program remains in compliance with policies and procedures.

To Be Considered, You Should

Be empathetic, patient, and treat others with respect.

High School or Equivalent is & Associates is required; BA/BS preferred. A combination of college studies and one year of validated experience with at-risk populations may be substituted for a four-year degree.

Be at least 18 years of age.

Have a desire to work with troubled populations in a remote setting.

Experience

Minimum two years of experience working as a Peer Mentor in a behavioral health setting, or equivalent experience. Prior experience with trauma recovery models.

Mentor provides a wide range of trauma-informed supports, services, and advocacy, all of which contribute to a patient’s ability to engage in ongoing treatment, both within the outpatient treatment setting and at follow-up with outpatient client support services.

Must have the ability to take session notes and collect data with 100% accuracy and productivity, during the session. 

Bilingual Spanish and English is Welcomed

Knowledge/Skills

Demonstrated skills in patient advocacy.

Ability to demonstrate empathy, caring, and concern to bolster person’s self-esteem and confidence and to engage with patients using a behavioral health, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented perspective.

Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and work within the scope of professional practice.

Effective oral and written communication skills, with patients and colleagues.

Ability to learn skills in therapeutic techniques with individuals and groups.

Must be able to provide client delivered services as described in Medicaid guidelines.

Comfortable working with diverse populations and able to practice cultural humility.

Ability to engage in ongoing learning and professional and personal development.

Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.

Follows guidelines set forth in Children’s Advocate in Action.
