Cardiovascular Cardiographic Interpreter

Overview

The Cardiovascular Cardiographic Interpreter is responsible for monitoring patient's cardiac rhythms accurately and identifying and initiating appropriate actions should ECG pattern change on a monitor screen.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the interpreting cardiovascular cardiac rhythm.
• Identifies patient cardiac rhythm as observed on a monitoring device.
• Initiates appropriate action should ECG pattern change.
• Run permanent rhythm strip when appropriate.
• Informs nurse in charge of pattern changes appropriate.
• Informs nurse in charge of pattern changes when appropriate.
• Identifies rhythm strip as to patient name, rate time, and interval reading.
• Ability to interpret arrhythmias that include more sophisticated features such as a sinus arrest, pacemakers, aberrancy, and blocked beats.
• Ability to distinguish subtle EKG findings, concealed conduction, reciprocal conduction, trifascicular block, his bundle recording.
• Identify and describe pathophysiological effect on EKG rhythm.
• Performs all clerical duties as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general and department/service safety specific job‑related hazards.
• Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
• Promotes effective working relations both inter- and intradepartmentally to promote system-wide continuity of care.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

• Successful completion of the 40-hour ARH course in Basic Dysrhythmia Recognition and successful completion of the required examination.

Experience

• One (1) month to three (3) months of on-the-job training required to attain proficiency in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

• Formal training in a certified or licensed program with a minimum of twelve (12) months of training; OR

• Five (5) years of experience in advanced monitoring.

Licenses & Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Must be proficient in Windows, Microsoft Word, and other basic computer applications.

• Must be detail-oriented and thorough due to the complexity of monitoring responsibilities.

• Must be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of contacts at all levels of the organization and with external organizations.

• Maintains strict confidentiality regarding protected health information and provider information.

• Must demonstrate commitment to the Code of Ethics of applicable governing boards.

• Required to comply with OSHA regulations for N95 respirator training and fit testing.

• Knowledge of basic cardiac rhythm interpretation and cardiac monitoring practices.

• Ability to recognize abnormal cardiac rhythms and communicate findings appropriately.

• Ability to maintain accurate records and monitoring documentation.

• Strong observational, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
