Overview

The Assistant Director of Laboratory Services position is responsible for assisting in the supervision of laboratory testing to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Responsibilities

In absence of Director of Laboratory Services assumes duties of that position.

Takes active part in the selection of new procedures and improvement of existing ones.

Schedules laboratory coverage, makes work assignments and determines work priorities.

Develops and evaluates, or assists in development and evaluation of every section's quality control program.

Prepares and certifies payroll.

Assists in the preparation of department's budget in cooperation with Administration.

Assists in evaluating employee performance and sets attitudes and goals for the department.

Interviews prospective personnel and makes recommendations on hiring and firing.

Functions as a liaison to other hospital departments, medical staff and Administration.

Coordinates departmental in-service education activities.

Provides statistical data to Administration.

Coordinates proficiency testing program for department.

Assists in coordinating the orientation of new employees in departmental procedures and hospital policy.

Insures proper maintenance of department records.

Qualifications

Education (experience can be substituted for education)

Master's Degree A Master's Degree from an accredited institution with a major in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences, and subsequent to graduation, has at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience of which not less than two years has been spent working in the designated specialty in a clinical laboratory plus two (2) years in a supervisory position. Preferred

 

Bachelor's Degree OR A baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology which includes successful completion of a program in an CAHEA accredited School of Medical Technology and certified by a national agency recognized by the professional of medical technology plus at least four years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience; plus two (2) years in a supervisory position is preferred. Required

Bachelor's Degree OR A baccalaureate degree from an accredited educational institution with a major in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences; and, subsequent to graduation - (a) has had at least six years of pertinent laboratory experience in a hospital clinical laboratory; and, (b) has successfully completed pertinent courses which, when combined with the foregoing experience, will provide technical and professional knowledge comparable to that of #2 above plus two (2) years in the supervision is preferred. AND Possess a thorough knowledge of all functions of the laboratory. Participate in continuing education. Required

 

Associate’s Degree OR An associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology which includes successful completion of a nationally accredited program and certification through a national accrediting agency with a minimum of ten (6) years of experience in all pertinent departments in the laboratory. Completion of certification through a nationally recognized accrediting body as a Medical Technologist through testing and experience is preferred. Required
