What We Are Looking For

Seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined operator to oversee the operation and maintenance of a stormwater treatment facility. The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial process equipment, environmental sampling, troubleshooting, chemical handling, and preventive maintenance. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to safety and regulatory compliance, and the ability to work independently while supporting facility operations and environmental objectives.


What You Will Do

General:

  • Work safely and ensure compliance with all safety procedures, stop or report any unsafe activities by others
  • Respond to any environmental event
  • Assure the plant operates within required standards
  • Secure facility when unattended

 

Operations:

  • Monitor the performance and condition of all equipment, instruments and controls in the treatment plant
  • Calibrate fixed plant pH control instrumentation
  • Clean and replace filters
  • Record data and observations concerning plant operations
  • Respond in a timely and effective manner to all risks to operations
  • Respond to unattended alarms or ensure coverage by others
  • Monitor water and chemical inventories
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of bulk chemicals

 

Mechanical:

  • Maintain and repair industrial equipment including pumps, piping, valves, heat exchangers and filters
  • Connect lift slings, straps and direct crane operators for removal and replacement of equipment
  • Operate and maintain temporary pumps, hoses and connections
  • Clean, paint and general facility maintenance

 

Field Work:

  • Collect samples and perform field analysis for plant operation quality control
  • Perform field measurements for water quality: pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, ORP, etc.
  • Calibrate field test meters
  • Maintain records of process observations and laboratory analysis

What You Need

Education:

  • High School degree or equivalent is required
  • A 2-year degree or certificate in a related technical field is preferred

 

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 2 years of previous successful work experience in an industrial setting
  • Previous experience in the use of a preventive maintenance tracking program is desired

 

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:

  • The incumbent must meet the criteria to obtain and maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) as required by USCG/DHS regulations
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory with the Company's standards, as well as its insurers

 

Competencies, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good oral and written communications (English)
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer and applications (Microsoft Office, database, and internet search engines)
  • Ability to perform job duties with little or no supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work safely and follow procedures and best management practices
  • Ability to interact with regulatory agencies and peers with self-confidence, poise, and professionalism
  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions
  • Must be able to read and interpret equipment manuals and drawings
  • Must report to work and on time as scheduled

 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may be required to stand; walk, sit, ascend/descend stairs; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color perception and the ability to adjust focus

 

Working Conditions:

  • Position is generally assigned a daytime schedule but will be required to work extended hours to include nights and weekends
  • Must be available for 24 hour call-in
  • Tasks are performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions
