We're Hiring: Accounting Manager

Location: Providence, RI
Reports To: Chief of Finance
Employment Type: Full-Time (Monday - Friday, 8 hour shifts)

We're seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead our accounting operations, mentor a talented team of Staff Accountants, and help ensure the financial health and compliance of our organization. This is a unique opportunity to combine technical accounting expertise with meaningful leadership while supporting programs that make a real difference in the community. 

What You’ll Do:

Lead & Develop a High-Performing Team

  • Supervise, coach, and mentor Staff Accountants
  • Provide ongoing feedback, performance management, and professional development opportunities
  • Create onboarding and cross-training programs that strengthen team capabilities
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Oversee Core Accounting Functions

  • Manage general ledger activities, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
  • Ensure accurate cost allocations and adherence to accounting procedures
  • Oversee revenue and expense recording in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Prepare financial statements and management reports

Ensure Compliance & Financial Integrity

  • Strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Monitor compliance with grants, contracts, donor restrictions, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate annual audits and support external reviews
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies

Partner Across the Organization

  • Collaborate with program, HR, and operational teams on financial reporting and coding
  • Provide financial guidance and training to non-finance staff
  • Serve as a trusted resource for financial problem-solving and decision support

What You Bring:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 10+ years of accounting experience
  • 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience working in nonprofit, governmental, or grant-funded environments
  • Proven ability to develop, motivate, and lead accounting professionals

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA designation
  • Experience with federal grants and Uniform Guidance
  • Experience using nonprofit accounting software such as NetSuite, MIP, Financial Edge, Sage, or Intacct

Work Environment

 On-site presence will be required.This is a hybrid position requiring both remote and onsite work. Flexibility to work extended hours during peak periods, including audits, budgeting cycles, year-end close, and program reviews, is expected.
