Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician assists in providing quality pharmacy services to hospital staff and patients.  Assists pharmacists in preparing, dispensing and maintaining inventory of drugs and medications.  Provides support in daily operations, such as maintaining patient records, creating reports, labeling medication and auditing controlled substances.  Ensures that infection control and Quality Assurance standards.


Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrates competency, individually and as part of the multidisciplinary team, in performing clinical care and assessment of all patient populations
Assists in the preparation of drug compounds and solutions.
Fills, checks and delivers medication orders.
Audits and distributes controlled substances.
Maintains departmental infection control standards.
Creates various reports and documents in support of department record-keeping.
Completes labeling requirements for medication.
Participates in Quality Assurance activities.
Assists in the management of pharmacy inventory.
Assists in day-to-day operations of the Infusion Center.
Maintains professional competency.
Protects and preserves patient rights to confidentiality.
Performs other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.
  


Requirements

High School graduate with experience in pharmacy and familiarity with drug usage, or completion of a hospital-based training program leading to certification as a Pharmacy Technician. Must be certified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board with the CPHT certification and licensed through the RI Board of Pharmacy as a Tech II.  Must be available for rotating shifts including days, evenings, and nights as well as available every other weekend and every other holiday.  Must have experience in working with computers, possess good interpersonal skills, and be proficient in the English language.
