Job Description:

Summary:

The Program Manager oversees and manages all aspects of Brown University’s international medical student programs within the Division of Biology and Medicine. This role facilitates the end-to-end experience for both incoming international students and outgoing Brown medical (AMS) and undergraduate (PLME) students. The Program Manager leads the application and placement processes, ensuring compliance with institutional requirements, managing student advising, enrollment, and recruitment for 18 active international programs along with program evaluation.


The Program Manager is a critical advocate for student well-being and safety. They manage the TravelSafe system, serve as the main point of contact for health and wellness concerns, and may lead undergraduate group international travel and conduct site visits to international partners if faculty are not available. To accomplish this work the position maintains appropriate collaborations and partnerships including those within The Warren Alpert Medical School, The Program in Liberal Medical Education, The Office of Global Engagement and Office of International Student and Scholar Services. The role also involves program development, ensuring Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) execution, supporting development of new exchange partnerships, and evaluating current agreements.


This position requires robust financial and outreach management. The Program Manager oversees all program-related accounts, including budget development and financial reporting oversight while ensuring compliance with university policies. To promote global health equity, they lead the student ambassador initiatives. This position is essential for maintaining the university's global standards, expanding access for students, and facilitating seamless communication between Brown and its international partner institutions.


This is a fixed-term position with a current end date of one year from hire, which may be extended based on available funding.

Job Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred

  • Plus 3-5 years’ of related experience required

  • Cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations required

  • Experience working with financial and budget information, including the ability to analyze and reconcile accounts, is highly desired.

  • Prior experience with grant coordination and submissions is highly desired

  • Prior international program management in an academic environment is highly preferred

  • Demonstrated interest in global health and health equity is highly desired

  • Fluency in Spanish-language is preferred

  • And/or equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Competencies

  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Superior organization and customer service skills

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Google Docs

  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high degree of familiarity with various offices at Brown, affiliated hospitals and international exchange partner schools

  • Ability to perform job duties efficiently and accurately with minimal supervision, effectively prioritize work, multi-task, and easily adjust to changing work priorities and deadlines

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism, focus and follow-through

  • Maintain tact, patience, diplomacy and sensitivity when dealing with students from another country

  • Ability to perform job duties with persistence and tenacity to ensure that the applicants complete the required documents and meet their training requirements in a timely manner
