SUMMARY: Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants) provide comprehensive care to patients with a wide variety of brain and spine disorders on the inpatient Neurosurgery floor service (non-ICU setting) at a level one trauma center. Primary duties include the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in the preoperative and postoperative setting. The Advanced Practice Provider will serve as first responder in the event of patient status changes, orders, and situations including procedural or resuscitative interventions. Advanced Practice Providers are an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team, providing comprehensive care of our neurosurgical patients from admission until discharge.The Advanced Practice Provider works in conjunction with neurosurgical attending and resident doctors to evaluate and consult patients in the Emergency Room, learning to make a variety of neurosurgical diagnoses and formulating and implementing treatment plans. Advanced Practice Provider team-members will be involved with patients' perioperative care, preparing patients for the operating room, placing post-operative orders and interpreting daily imaging studies and laboratory tests. ;Advanced Practice Providers will also have the opportunity to perform simple bedside procedures such as removing surgical drains and sutures and programming shunts. If interested, can also receive training on how to place central lines, arterial lines, lumbar drains and external ventricular drains. Is accountable to facilitate a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. Will be responsible to the Medical Director of Patient Services and responsible for overseeing the progress of a specific caseload of patients across the care continuum to include pre-admission and post-discharge when feasible. Acts as an educator, consultant, and liaison to healthcare providers caring for the patients across the care continuum. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities:Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in nursing theory and practice with mastery of knowledge within a defined content area.Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.Provides leadership in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.Oversees care coordination in acute, home care, and ambulatory care settings as feasible.Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education and encouragement.Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics. Provides direct care to patients in acute care, ambulatory care and home care settings. Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director. Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee. Participates in the education, clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers. Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise. Annually completes mandatory safety infection control, BLS,and ACLS/PALS. Prescriptive privileges per licensure. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGEGraduation from an accredited APP program and eligibility to practice as an APP in the state of Rhode Island is required. Current registration as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Rhode Island. An extremely high level of analytical ability. Good interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively with patients, their families, nursing personnel, and providers from other services. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. EXPERIENCEpan class=xxxelementtoproof1 Work experience in a clinically intensive atmosphere is preferable, However, we are willing to train new graduate Advanced Practice Providers who have had relevant educational experiences in these areas.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIE None.

Pay Range:

$125,000.00-$158,593.75
