GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Within the Department of Transportation, student will provide assistance to staff in performing technical support tasks in a variety of operating programs; to perform research, compile data and to prepare reports and analyses. Students will work alongside career professionals in such areas as: Records Management, Traffic Management, Property Management, Health & Safety, Claims Adjudication, and Administrative Services during a specific limited period.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Duties are assigned individually in detail; work is closely supervised.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Usually none.
Illustrative Examples of Work Performed
A student in this classification might compile, update and analyze complex sets of data for technical reports; may assist in the development of databases; may assist administrative support to career professionals in a variety of transportation disciplines; may assist in scheduling, planning and presenting, at public meetings; may assist in the development of organizational communications; may assist in the design, development and implementation of all types of projects, research studies, and surveys in their assigned program area. To do related work as required.
Required Qualifications for Appointment
This position requires the exercise of independent judgment, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, filing ability, and excellent computer skills; spreadsheet, databases, and word processing computer software; the ability to prepare clear and concise oral and written reports; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; the ability to make effective oral presentations; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION: Applicants should be at least a second year student, enrolled at an accredited college/university majoring in a related concentration program; a student's academic standing and GPA are judged for placement preference.
